The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Arron Asham to a one-year contract worth $700,000 on Friday.
in 'It's Your Call", Oilersrock16 said it better than I can....
"good signing by the Penguins. Asham will add some much needing grit to their checking line and will add some secondary scoring" I wouldn't be suprised if he becomes a fan fav in Pittsburgh. I have liked his play going back to when he was with the Islanders.
now IF Shero had also gone after Andy Sutton, I would be pretty satisfied with the off season although they STILL neeed to figure a way to move Kunitz (not likely) and dump both Guerin and Fedotenko who are overpriced UFA "no loads".
kind of interesting that the NHL.com Penguins team listing doesn't how either Guerin or Fedotenko

looks like Ray Shero will NOT make an offer to "Geezer" Guerin....
I think this is a good move by the Penguins. last season "Geezer" couldn't hit half empty nets from 5 feet away. way too many young guys like Eric Tangradi, Mark Letestu, Dustin Jeffrey, Nick Johnson or Tim Wallace that can replace him

Wish the flyers would of kept him and gotten rid of "Car-bomb".
I will agree with you on Carcillo. the guy seems to always take a stupid penalty at the worst time in a game. IF I remember correctly, didn't Laviolette sit "Car-bomb" in a bunch of playoff games after they almost got swept by the Bruins?

You stand correct sir. I will say once he sat a couple games, he came back and wasn't so stupid. We'll see what this year brings along.

well at least "Car-Bomb" isn't costing you damn near $4 million a year thru 2012 like that no load Chris Kunitz is my Penguins. I'm STILL pissed Shero traded Ryan Whitney, who was a solid D-man for the Pens, for Kunitz's over priced ass.
the Eric Tangradi part of that deal might still work out. I sure hope so because Kunitz has been very average for his price.

I think Holmgren is looking at potential with Carcillo. He has shown moments of skill with the puck, and if he matures, he could become a valuable player. Asham, I don't believe has much more "upswing". And lastly, good luck to Gagne. It was sad to see you go.

When you win a cup the same year as the trade you arent allowed to complain about it

I don't think Kunitz was that much of a factor in the Cup win. that was the year of "Geno", "The Flower" and "Mad Max" (in the finals). Kunitz really hasn't done jack for his close to $4 million.
will see what happens with Mike Comrie. not too much downside for $500k on a one year deal BUT it will either be a "home run" or a bust.
