I've had 3 separate 5 game losing streaks, and still looking for my first 4 game win streak. Usually when you bet favorites you expect to get killed on the juice, but I'm getting killed with my record and forgetting the juice. I didn't know it was possible to be 40% correct betting favorites.

Hockey's tough. Teams that dominate games lose (Blue Jackets and Canucks tonight), good teams take nights off, goalies steal games. Over the course of the season things tend to even out to how they're "supposed" to work. But in general if you pick mostly favorites you're going to have a hard time winning at the end of the season unless you have some sort of trustworthy criteria.

You know what? You might as well just flip a coin picking these games. So much craziness going on in the NHL these days. I think the parity has a lot to do with it.

NHL is pretty brutal to me too but then again, I don't bet as much, nor do I follow the sport as much as the other experienced forum members. Of course, the only thing that I follow in NHL is the results but as for the team? I couldn't name a single player on ANY team let alone probably tell you their mascot/uniform colors. Only person I know of is "SID-nee Craws-bee?" When I capp and pick a game, I merely base it off of a situational cap and even then, that usually loses. I will admit though, it's frustrating to back a -200 or more team (I will lay the -1 to reduce the juice) in a favorable situation (@ home, string of losses, desperate for win, "crappy" team visiting) and they still end up losing.
With this sport, I am limiting my plays due to the other venues available but will still play a game here or there due to the situation. Sorta like backing the Blues -104 last night. "Revenge" game, not trying to get swept for their regular season match up between the 2, on a 3 game losing streak. How did that turn out? 2-1 Preds..
"Schrödinger's bet." A bet that loses when you bet it but wins when you DON'T bet it...

Just look at coaching changes, style of play, injuries among a few things..i know the least about hockey than the other major team sports and 2 weeks ago hit a 3 teamer paying 5 to 1 and last thurs had the caps/rags paying 3.5 to 1

I stick with playing one game a night, even then, I'm still very selective, sometime's I can go a week or more without wagering on a game. Parlays are a "no play" for me. My advise, pick your spots and don't pay too much juice.

Much in agreement with this.....no parlays, no juice....think of the season as a marathon, not a sprint. Don't obsess over streaks. You can see many of these strategies playing out with success in the CHCL

The situation the team is in and their recent play factor in a lot more in hockey than other sports. Play style and how specific teams match up with each other I feel is important. I have found following trends has been mostly unsuccessful so far this season. Better to look at each team in a matchup and try exploit their current situation.

I typically do short road favorites. I've found in hockey that home ice doesn't really mean sh!t.

Hockey is definitely the hardest sport to cap UNLESS you are really into it and know a lot about the players teams goaly tendencies etc.
Most guys who cap NHL are really into hockey and know their stuff. Even then it's still hard but at least they make more of the "right" side plays.
There is no "UNLESS"....I live and breath this sport. It used to be a very profitable venture but it has become a nightmare to bet in the last few years. I am saying this even after making some major adjustments and doing much better recently...
There is so much parity now and an undeniable luck factor...I dont see how it's possible for anyone to "dominate" this sport. The amount of effort you have to put in the long haul is just not worth it imo...much better served focusing on other sports, which is what I have done.
I am sure there are people that will disagree but to each their own.

I totally agree with bhawk. I have always won good money in the NHL. I am a math nut and have models on top of models. The last 3 years they have became more and more useless. The last couple of months has made little to no sense. I have always put a little extra weight on goalie vs opposing team history. It was solid early this year but hasn't been very good the last couple of months, when I have had time to cap.
good luck everyone
Peace and Love

You simply cannot bet favorites in hockey. Lines are a joke. Even when you win you are often taking reduced payoffs of -150 to -200 or worse. I bet hockey nearly every day. Here's what I do.
I pick out 4 or 5 dogs that I think can win. I never take minus money. If I am going to bet favorites- say anyone playing Detroit- I take the puck line. Games -300 or more are simply a pass or I consider the dog on a puckline.
If ya wanna do the math- betting dogs often nets me a flat bet roi even when I only win 2 out of 5. You can check this easily enough by scrolling back on Covers and seeing just how often dogs win. It's a fu**ton..
Sometimes I do a round robin box by 2's using all dogs or totals. I find myself using totals a lot. Tonite I am on 3 totals. Vegas, Colorado and San Jose- all over.
San Jose is a winner- holding breath on Vegas at 3-0. And colorado tonite.
Dogs and totals. I am money ahead. Hope this helps.

I am 12th on picking over/unders, but I am about 3424 place picking the teams. I don't bet money on games, but if I did, Covers has taught me that I should bet on Over/Unders, not the teams, according to my record. Really strange how I could do so well on one, and so bad on the other in the NHL.

Been doing pretty well last few weeks. Changed my approach completely. Stay away from ML and teams all together. I don’t get TT cuz my book sucks. Parlays are a waste of time because even when you hit the first two ( 3 team max in my site ) that last one on the card you need will hit 1/10. I’ve been taking U/O. Every game. Profitable last two weeks. I will be posting my plays this week if anyone wants to take a ride. All plays are 1 unit. That’s part of the approach. Slow and steady

The parity in ice hockey is much higher than other sports- which is one of the many reasons I love it. Home teams usually only win around 50-55% of their games across the league and since it's typically low scoring, the game can swing on a good play or by crazy chance in some cases. For me, that's just more exciting because each possession can be so impactful. If you cap a 65% clip in NHL, so long as you're not picking heavy favorites (-200 or greater) - you're doing alright. In fact, a losing record of 45% while picking around +150 lines will be profitable.
