Islanders are a brilliant team! Great team hockey puck handling and skating even superior to Boston! Watch the game! 

boston has stars on their front line so what. They aren’t the better team right now.

@Predictorama... it's because stats don't lie. Islanders let up the 2nd most expected goals per game in the 2nd round and Boston ended with 56% of expected goals in the series (also 2nd overall). Islanders were clearly the worse team in games 1 and 5, and didn't dominate any of the games, even the ones they won by multiple goals.

That's not to say they didn't deserve to win the series. They found a way to stop the Bruins in 4 out of 6 games, which is impressive. There were many luckier teams that advanced so far in this postseason. Jets being the prime example, but even the Canadiens didn't play great in the first round. They just found a way to limit dangerous chances and got a little luck. Same as NY here.

 AJ long time buddy...you are not wrong but "Luck" can be explained by goaltending, poor shooting, and the "Trotz factor". 

Xg is a good "chance creation" model but it is almost useless as a predictor.

Hey bhawksfan. I feel like we had this same conversation probably a year or two ago haha.

I use it as a predictor as a shortcut along with high danger scoring chances but you're right, it doesn't tell the whole story. There are good teams with mediocre xg like the Islanders because of their style of play. Hurricanes always have high xg but not high danger chances.

It also depends on which lines are getting those good chances. If the 4th line is getting good looks it doesn't matter as much as if it's the top line. That's something I'm planning on looking into going forward but just takes more effort.

Hope you're doing alright. Hawks looked like they had a playoff shot this year.

 ah gotcha, that's an interesting point about the 4th line, I have never looked into that. 

Yeah my Hawks fell apart in the 2nd half, just wasn't going to happen without Toews....and Dach didn't look healthy either when he came back.
