I get teams are going to "take nights off". I think its total bullshit ESPECIALLY when the HOME team takes the night off. In December there were 13 shutouts, 5 of them were the home team getting shut out. In January ALREADY there has been 6 shutouts with 4 of them coming as a result of the home team being shutout.
As much as it costs to go to a game these days, I can't imagine NOT showing up in front of your home fans and getting blanked like that.
What's even more frustrating for me as a total's bettor, specifically the O5.5, is EVERY SINGLE TIME a team has gotten shut out, the other team has met or surpassed their average goals scored per game. So, one team is still bringing it but then the other team is kind of just not playing?
Part of being able to cap and bet successfully is counting to the fact that both teams are going to play to their averages at the minimum with one team exerting extra effort and pushing the other team to do the same. Now i am no conspiracy theorist so I will stop right here...BUT...the lack of effort is ASTOUNDING and happening consistently.
Rant over.

@triplee2385
Jordan said he always thought about that kid in the crowd seeing him play for the first time. To coast on any night was unthinkable.
As totals players, we see it show up: teams tossing 3 or 4 shots in a period or conversely, waking up for a period and potting 4 before going back to sleep.
How much fear can a coach really instil in these guys anymore? They just stop playing for them
if they don’t like em.

part of the capping is guessing which nights they take the day off, like Col at Chi 2 days ago, didn't bet it, rookie goalie, MN next day, long season, it will happen, I hate it too Lost on Vegas -1, called back Vegas goal in the first sucked, the blue line should be 3 feet wide, I hate the offsides by a a couple inches, game is too fast for that BS, get rid of the reviews for offsides if it's not called, keep the game going imo
Caps took the night off against Van, 6,5,2 = 13 SOG in reg, they won in OT 2-1.

@Crazy_Train
I do not consider taking random guesses as to when a team will "take a night off" part of my handicapping when looking at games. Maybe I should, but I won't... if that was the case, I would never make a bet because I would expect anyone, given the opportunity to take the night off.
I don't always look at 1 goal games as a team took the night off. COL and MON went to OT on MON recent visit to the mile high city. Did COL take the night off or did MON just outplay them defensively?
CBJ beat BOS 6-2 then the next night on the road lost to BOS 4-0. Both teams traveled the same distance and played the same game the night before. CBJ just took the night off in BOS. I can see taking an away game off and letting a home team get a meaningless win. But weve got teams just not playing to their abilities through the course of a month! What do they play 10-14 games a month, come on, that's just lazy...Teams should start cutting these Primadonna's instead of firing coaches. FLA was shutout four times in December. OTT already shut out twice in January. it's really just pathetic lazy effortless performances. I could go on and on, but this is why I only stick to totals and really try to stick to O5.5 plays because as long as you get a 4-2 or 5-1 score on a team taking a night off at least you can still have outside shot at getting to the total goals.
I recognize it, bitch about it, take the L and keep it in mind before I bet that team again. These athletes being paid big money to play a game should be ashamed of themselves for taking a night off when they are only really working for half the month anyway...That's what the offseason is for.
BOL tonight with your plays.

100%! when I saw the Leafs only take 2 shots in the first period against the flyers the other night through 17 minutes of play. I am like what the hell is going on here. The shots per period is disgusting from some of these teams at times... When I am tracking average goals per game, that's really what I am expecting teams to play to each night and a lot of these teams are averaging 2-3 goals per game on 24-29 shots per game. But you're right, no accountability for the players. IMO if you are gonna pay someone that much money, there is no "Days off" unless there is no game or practice that day. These kids (and even worse, grown ass men) forget that when they are making the big money.

@vaas187
half the league does, use it as a tool in your capping, betting for or against the EN can be profitable, learn who does and doesnt etc, look for 2 goal draws, 3 goal draws, spread -3.5 or NNG based on differentials with 5-7 mins left
