20 goals 25 assists in 59 games and now $5.5 million a year.... WOW!!!
What do the Leafs fans think? Seems insanely over priced IMO.
$5.5 million for a 27 year old guy who plays big minutes and still has never scored 30 or more in a Season.... even the Villie Leino and Derek Roy think thats overpaying.

Given the recent sick and twisted contracts belted out (ie. Hemsky, Leino, Fleischman, Ruutu, etc) this extension does not upset me at all.
From the outside looking in, it is easy to judge Grabo based on his stats this season and say that 5.5mill is a little much. However, watching game in and game out, it doesn't take much to realize how truly valuable Grabovski is to the Leafs. When Kessel is too intimidated to do anything useful, and thus Lupul and Bozak have off-nights, it is Grabovski and the 2nd line that take control and overwhelm the opposing defence with their speed, passing, and unbelievable chemistry.
Grabo represents the depth of the Leafs up front. Without him you can say they have MacArthur, Kulemin, Connolly, Lombardi, etc... but Grabovski is the glue of the Leafs offensive depth. He may not put up astonishing numbers, but he arguably the best all-around forward the Leafs have (you can make an argument for Lupul this year).
Without Grabo, the Leafs would have no secondary scoring, and would be hard pressed to pick up someone of his calibre and talent to fill the void.
this contract extension is absolutely fine by me.
Glad to keep him around, GO LEAFS GO

Of course he is overpaid but what UFA or soon to be UFA isn't at least by a bit? You just need to find which guys are worth it. To the Leafs, he probably is because they don't have any centers.
The guy has never hit 60 points and correct me if I'm wrong but don't think he is the best defensively either so....
Isn't the cap rising next year too?

In Grabo's case, it's not necessarily about the numbers. Not for now anyways. it's what he brings to the Leafs....depth, stability, secondary scoring, chemistry, speed, a wicked shot, and is one of the hardest working players in the league (just watch the beating his takes every night).
and YES wiggins you are wrong, Grabo leafs the Leafs in +/- and back-checks regularly

wiggins he has never eclipsed 30 goals or 30 assists in a single season..... he might get over 30 assists this year, which would be a career high. Needs 5 helpers in the final 16ish games.

For the record, i thought the Sabres overpaid the shit out of Leino back in July.... he has one decent playoff run in his whole career and he is suddenly a 4.5 million a year guy for the next 6 years..... now the Sabres are stuck with him, there isn't a team out there that will take that contract off their hands.

not to mention he had 29 goals and 29 assists last year (58 pts), which aint too shabby either for a 2nd line centre on a team that missed the playoffs. Grabo will score 30 at least a couple times before he calls it a career and it probably isn't too crazy to predict a ~70pt season in the near future. wishful thinking? maybe, but Grabo is a very talented player and one of the hardest working out there

we overpaid slightly but this was due to the market prices i.e. rutuu. else we may of got him for 5yrx5M. either way i'm happy, hes shows up every night and plays hard. probably our best 2 way C

Exactly, given the market conditions with all these overpriced contracts, 5.5/year for Grabo is fair in relative terms, though it woulda been nice if he took a discount to remain with the team that made him lol but hey it could be worse... we could be paying 7.3 mill/year for Scott Gomez...or in other words paying someone 3.5mill for every goal scored! bahaha

Worst contract in the league by far (Gomez) but it has been recouped many times over with the habs recent playoff appearances.
Would you not rather have a contract like Gomez and make the playoffs a few times (going deep in one of them) or do you want a Grabo and just watch the playoffs on tv?
It's all about the playoffs. Thats why they get paid.

good hockey player, saw him get a minor concussion or close last year before the timeout rule and goes and scores a goal next shift, not a smart decision by the coach to not have him checked out ,.
