I know this season is still on but here is some news for New Years Day 2009.
An announcement could be as soon as ThursdayWGN and CSN report Chicago Blackhawks will host the Detroit Red Wings @
Wrigley Field on New Years Day 2009.
Most likely reason is the NHL
didn't want to pony the $200K for stadium upkeep for Yankee Stadium.
Tony Esposito, Bobby Hull, and Stan Makita are already scheduled to sing the 7th Inning Stretch on Friday @ Wrigley.

This should be a great game. Two historic teams, an historic field, and most likely the defending champions.
Hopefully they don't put it on at the same time as the college football bowl games though as it would be very hard for me to watch it over a bowl game.

was easy for me to watch it over the college bowl games
thats exactly when it should be on. people have seen enough meaningless nonsense college bowl games. Jan 1 outdoors every year is great for the NHL
College bowl games would steal so much viewers. I really think they are out of their minds putting it on New Years Day. It might still get good ratings, but they'd most likely be much better on a different day. Fact is, most people prefer football over hockey, and New Years Day is one of the biggest days for college football in the entire season.
