The NHL Trade Deadline came and went this week and it might be time that the Canadian government passes a law to make it a national holiday. It's amazing how many people in this country get excited year after year to see the same group of castoffs move to a new team. Wow...Bill Guerin to the Penguins! Mark Recchi to the Bruins! The Leafs get two 2nd-round picks! Outside of Ray Bourque has their ever been an impact move at the deadline that has led that team to a Cup? (And yes I know that Recchi won in Carolina but he was a small part on that team).
All the hype this year is on the Calgary Flames getting Olli Jokinen and his 700+ career games without making the playoffs. While he looked good in his debut last night, the honeymoon will soon be over and there's no doubt the cancer will return in time for the playofffs. And if all the Flamers think that Jordan Leopold is the answer on an overrated defense, then you're sorrily mistaken.
Like the old adage says, "if it ain't broke then don't fix it." While many teams made moves a number of the true Cup contenders stood pat at the deadline, including Detroit (even though cap issues played a part) and New Jersey.
If you're looking for a value bet for an NHL future this spring, look no further then the Vancouver Canucks (currently 21-1 at Sports Interaction). Although they had over $2 million in cap space at the deadline, Mike Gillis decided not to upset the chemistry on a team that's won 11 of their last 13 and are only getting stronger. With one of the top two goalies in the world, a deep and talented defense corps, two top scoring lines and a bunch of other scrubs, this team is built to make a long run to Lord Stanley in the spring.

The Sundin twins will never bring a cup to Vancover as long as they're the "go to guys". Calgary although a little early to tell seem to have really improved their team with the trade deadline additions and If Kippy gets hot in the playoffs they can easily win the conferancer with minor upsets of both SJ and DET onward to to BIG DANCE @ 11-1.
Sould be an interesting finish and cup run
