Did anyone else feel like this reminded you of Game 6 vs Dallas/Edmonton? Dallas (Edmonton) controlled the pace of play but Florida (Edmonton) made timely plays and then played solid defense.
Didn't like the way Florida played. Bob saved their arses multiple times. Was thinking this might be a homer series, but tending to look at Edmonton in Game 2. Have watched Florida throughout the year and although they won, it wasn't the way they normally play. Thought they were on the defensive for most of the night and usually, they are the predators not the prey. If they come out in Game 2 with that mindset, Oil will jump. Bob was a stud tonight but can he steal the series? He can, ask Tampa, multiple times.
Going to be a good series... ok...fill in as needed.

Oilers outplayed Panthers in the 1st P, then the game evened out for the most part...can't expect Deadmonton's power play to be any worse moving forward.
Maybe a minor case of finals jitters on the Oilers part on those partial break aways and couldn't finish?
Game 2 should be another good game

The O’s had far more scoring opportunities… Florida must be relieved they didn’t play Shesterkin in the net… they had to be psyched out…. The Oilers may feel the same with Bob in the net for Panthers…. 2-3 clean break aways …. Easy saves… I said that before… Against Bruins and then Rags…. The only way you can beat Florida is to score 2 -2 and a half … now count in how many games they scored 2 ( plus) goals…. 3 times in 12 games ???? The same will apply to Edmonton…. Their speed can create some opportunities the ? Is can they put the pucks behind Bob’s behind…. Only time will tell …. At least 3 more games….

Now that the alcohol has worn off and got some shut eye and caught up on reading, I can expand on the game more. My opinion.
Four Edmonton players McDavid, Hyman, Bouchard and Draisaitl accounting for 52% of the Oilers SOG. Unsustainable against the Panthers. I thought Knoblauch hit the panic button early, meaning I think it was the 2nd period but it could have been 3rd that he put the BIG line today. Watching the highlights, I didn't see too many Oilers in front of the net. To beat Florida, you have to go to the dirty area. Florida was physical and Edmonton not so much. Yes, Edmonton to have played a great game minus Bob. What I would be concerned about is that Florida didn't play a good game and they know it. Florida, I mean Bob, stole Game 1. Florida was outshot for only the 3rd time in the post season and each game after they came out firing the puck. What was the stat they stated last night, Goals Saved Above Expected, Bob was like 5.2. Don't see that continuing. One thing I did read was Edmonton has 12 SOG 1P, 13 SOG 2P but when it came to nut cutting time, they could only manage 7 SOG in the final period. To me, that is telling about how this Panther team can shut you down.
Game 1 just brought more questions. Can Bob continue? If Florida does play better what happens? Florida allowed several Oilers get behind them and got away with it for Game 1, don't think the Oil will miss those opportunities again. SC Final numbers: Teams that win game 1 wins the Cup 76% of the time and that number jumps to 84% when the home team wins game 1. I look for Edmonton to learn and score on Bob but I also expect Florida to realize they stole one and pick it up a little more.

Oilers are playing their top 4 too many minutes and they will definitely need more from their 3rd and 4th lines. It's a scary thought, but when Corry Perry is your 5th best player, you could be in trouble.. This lack of depth will eventually catch up to the Oilers over time. The Oilers goaltending is not elite and that will also have an impact. I think Florida will be a tough out, and they play a style of game Edmonton is not used to.. I think the Oilers know this will not be easy , and it showed on the bench during the 3rd period. Momentum will be huge during this series..

Not a hockey guy… but I have watched some…. Agree with you… this did not look like the Florida I have seen… but it was 3-0…. As you delve into the numbers… it looks closer than I visualized…. If a few of those go in the net… but they didn’t … I assume home ice matters a lot… so if you don’t see improved Florida … game one is less tasty… surely they want to be 2-0 at home… as in all hands on deck..l odds surely go way up with 2-0 lead…. How much better do they need to play though really… up 3-0 on scoreboard…. I have decent sized wager for me on Florida to win series. Your analogy of the hunter and the hunted is spot on to me. Florida slowly smothers … anaconda style… the scoreboard says they kinda did that. Good luck to all. Appreciate reading your guys analysis….

I really wish I had put more on FLA Series. This one will be lucky to make it past 5 games. Oil outplayed them for most part, yet the scoreboard showed 3 to nil at the final buzzer. Playing Oil ML next game, because I am trying to not predict each game, rather press on with a system that has performed well over time (based on Lipps Early Round Split system), but I feel like I am throwing money away....

This writer hits on a point I made a couple years ago here in the Forum, when Tkachuk went to South FLA from Calgary. I live in New England area of the USA, where they tax the shit out of us, and I have literally paid more in taxes to my State Gov't over the last 30 years, than it's going to cost me to put two kids thru college.
Why would any semi-intelligent player/agent not favor these teams...???

This series is still going 7....look for Oilers to finish their chances now....if Panthers continue to play this style they will get burned regularly....each game has adjustments....definitely thinking more goals next game and the game 1 gitteers from the Oilers to be forgotten...now has who wins the Stanley Cup....lean Florida as per last year's trip that left them chewing at the bit...huge experience advantage to Florida in that respect.....cheers and good luck

Great reads. I agree. After watching post game interviews I feel the Oilers are not shy on any confidence after Game 1. Seems that they think if the same game played tonight they would win. I don't blame them. It was a close game. Oilers had great looks and could of easily scored 1 or 2 goals. And to hold Florida 15 SOG under their playoff average. I feel that could of been their best shot at a road win. Thought it was a little funny when McDavid answered a question on their goose egg saying maybe it was the hockey gods getting them back for game 6 when they probably didn't deserve that win. I think Oilers were very happy with their play and maybe that was the best they have. Can they bring it again? Sure. But I believe Florida will bring a little more than what they did Game 1. I'll assume the Panthers took this game as a wake up call. They know they need to be much better and that will show in Game 2.
