Serious question and not because I am a fan of the Penguins, but I do not understand the hatred for Sidney Crosby.  Why do guys like Milbury and Roenik trash this guy?  Are they not supposed to promote the game and the all stars of the league?  You do not see NFL commentators bashing Tom Brady all over the place.. 

When he came into the league, I can admit he liked to get after the officials a lot and it defintely came across like he was whining.  But after years in the league what has he done to deserve the criticism he receives?  He says all the right things on camera, a teamplayer, stays out of trouble, probably the best grinder in the game, and just flat out plays hockey like it is supposed to be played.  Is it just jealousy?

Its exactly what you said, the way he came into the league always whining. He was compared to Gretzky who never did that, fair or not. It will change though.

It's the whinging on the ice. That is what most NHL players say about him, so I guess that's why. No clue myself i'm not on the ice, but I have heard this directly from a few NHL players directly. That's the general feeling. They say he whines and he flops and dives on the ice too much. Milbury and Roenick were hockey players so they would be hearing and seeing the same things. The other commentators who were not hockey players do not say negative things, they are just enamored with him like normal fans.

He was probably spoiled as a child and as such needs things to go his way otherwise its time for tantrums...this is what makes him good also.

So from a players' standpoint it may be because of the things we as fans don't see and it would irritate the garbage out of me if the captain of the other team is always in the ear of the official and maybe falling a lot quicker than he should.  It is funny though, because other guys get accolades for drawing penalities and commentators saying it was a smart play.  Somewhat of a double standard but anyone from Brady to LeBron to Kobe to the Red Wings always seem to get a few more calls..

From a fans' standpoint I would think it is mostly the reason any good player gets booed.  When your the top dog, you are going to get targeted by the opponent and the fans..

Better question might be how is Mike Milbury an analyst?  The worst GM in the history of pro sports, defintely a guy you want to be listening to about hockey.Milbury.

Actually I can understand it plenty Davey. The guy is an arrogant/cocky prick---end of story!

He whines as much as any star there is.

He was spoiled before earning his star status (although he obviously has.)

He can come across as very douchey.

He is fragile.

He is good, and thus isn't going to be liked by non-Pens fans.

Honestly, Ovechkin seems far more likable and far less phony, and gets as much unfair criticism as anyone in the league.  It's part of being a big name star.
