Hi all. Sneaky follower since two seasons back and now decided to join the NHL community here. Seems like a great discussion place and I happily contribute to this, starting from today. I always prefer to post and add a comment to why I have picked the particular sides so that there is some reasoning to share.
Stakes vary from 1-5 units, so this will be disciplined. Rarely will we see a 4 unit play, if ever. But here is the start
0-0-0 (0.00 units)
Pittsburgh - Ottawa
Hats off to Sens who have started well, but between the numbers the truth is that Ottawa have allowed 35.8 in shot against per game ravager which is the second worst in NHL, only Edmonton have allowed more shots which. Allowing shots does not always say the full story but heading to Pittsburgh while being back to back might take its toll on the team here. Penguins with a very frustrating start have to pick themselves up and Ottawa might very well be the victims of that if the Pens come out flying. The firepower in Penguins is enormous and I think tonight is the night where they get on the board in convincing fashion.
This is just a spot that I tend to follow and rate quite highly - teams returning home from a road trip is automatically tempting to go against. In this case, the Oilers are home from a 3-game road trip, and in my books it's simply a bad spot to back Edmonton here even if I have a soft spot for their talent. The Blues are just a smarter and more intelligent team, who happens to catch Edmonton on a good spot here as they return home, I have a very difficult time to overlook St Louis in this spot and therefore I think they will find their chances against the team who gives up the most shots in the league, it might very well be punished here
Pick: St Louis ML @ 1.65 (2/5) ____________________________________
Montreal - NY Rangers
Similar reasoning to the above, I automatically pay attention to teams returning home after a road trip and this time it puts Montreal in the trap - it remains to see how they handle it. On the ice we have a lovely battle between Price and Henrik, and two defensively disciplined teams which smells under in terms of goals - in whichever case, I realize Montreal have looked great and deserve much credit, but I will be a rebel here and go with the NY Rangers since I like the spot they catch Montreal in - home "opener" aside, I think Rangers can spoil the party at underdog odds
Pick:NY Rangers ML @ 2.05 (1/5)
That being said, best of luck to everyone

Friday 16/10 - I will remain with one play tonight as it really stands out in my opinion Winnipeg - Calgary
It is hard to deny that the Jets have impressed this far and seem to be rolling as a team as well with 11 different scorers so far. The question is how they handle the home debut after a tough road trip against some pretty physical teams such as Boston, NY Rangers and NJ Devils. The one loss - against a quick NY Islanders team kind of revealed the weakness of Winnipeg having trouble with "straight forward" kind of teams like Isles who wastes no time in the offensive zone. Calgary have not impressed massively but a road game might make the guys pull this together, and I really like to go against teams who are coming home from a long road trip with some traveling distance as well. The Flames tend to play well in Winnipeg and I think they catch the Jets in a good spot here, and the underdog price is taken without blinking despite a buzzing MTS Centre.
Pick: Calgary Flames @ 2.35 (1/10)
Good luck everyone!
