Guys, I'm not being cynical. Probably my lack of understanding. I humbly ask.
" Why are so many goaltenders diving forward when an opposing player rushes in and gets ready to shoot the Puck.
Two goals by Lanch tonight, Smith was lying flat on his belly and the shot went high and over him.
I've seen it all season. I'm not getting it. Please, I'm just trying to understand. I find there are allot of guys in here who understand Hockey. Just thought I would throw it out there.

They are called desperation saves or in this case save attempts. This is being taught by all goalie coaches. Better to be aggressive then sit back and react a few feet away. They guys have too good of hands to do that. Goalies are taking their chances lunging for the puck.

Right but trust me when I say this it looks a hell of a lot easier than it is. A hockey goalie is the hardest position in any sport. If you don’t go down and take up as much net as possible they will go 5 hole or snipe any corner (especially on the NHL level).

What sports have you played big man? Who have you known that played pro anything or even D1 anything? Put up or shut up. Not a blanket statement and EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion. Yes including you as ignorant as it may be.

I played a lot of sports at a high level in high school before busting my shoulder and knee you clown. Pitchers and QBs have it harder and that’s not debatable. Goalies prior to this era had it hard, until the last 25 years when the Michelin Man started making their equipment. What the fk have you played?

College baseball and beyond. Doubt you sniffed the bench in HS. My son plays in the USHL and has a D1 scholarship as a goalie. I can tell you the NHL is a world wide game. Especially for goalie. I don’t remember the last Russian, Finnish or Swedish NFL QB or MLB pitcher. Plus the Canadian goalie influence. The pressure is intense and there are only goalies to a team with the best in the world trying out for those positions. Clearly you are clueless to the big picture.

^only 2 goalies per team

College baseball and beyond, who the f*ck are you the Buzz Lightyear of baseball?
And your other post about "Who have you known who played pro anything or even D1 anything",so as long as you know someone who does it,that makes you an expert on it?I guess all these players wives must be experts about everything in the sport their husband play in?
Then you say,"The NHL is a world wild game.I don't remember the last Russian,Finnish, or Swedish NFL QB or MLB pitcher".I'm also having a hard time remembering the last Dominican or South American hockey goalie either.

Your whole post was a pathetic attempt to criticize with no real substance. Again 64 (32 NHL teams x 2 spots) goalie spots in the NHL with the world competing for them. Whereas 840 (30 MLB teams x 28 spots) with only US and South American teams in reality competing for them. You are a mental midget. Go back to the shallow end while the adults talk.

Your original "blanket statement"of hockey goalies being the hardest position in any sport, doesn't have anything to do with your math example of (32 NHL teams x 2 spots). What does how many are used in the NHL have anything to do with how hard of a position it is to play? And by no means is "the whole world competing for them",hence my statement of the last hockey goalie coming from the Dominican Republic or South America. If that's the case wouldn't punters and place kickers in the NFL be harder positions? Here's the math for that equation Buzz Lightyear (32 x 1 spot per team).Pretty witty comment about the "go back to the shallow end while the adults talk",if your such an adult, why you hanging out in a pool just so you can to talk to other adults?

Again everything goes over your simpleton head doesn’t. Here is something you will understand. It’s okay. You are a good boy. Bless your little heart. I gave several other points other than math but you have a hard time tracking them. Mental health. Like you are always to blame but only to reason for the win if you are truly spectacular. A baseball player can go 0-4 with 4ks, 5 left on base, 3 errors but hit the walk off homer and you are the hero. A goalie plays average to sub-average but the shootout winner and well finally showed up. International game. Scarce position. But year focus on the only point that you can comprehend at all.

You try and say things like you know everything, like in post 7 "trust me when I say this it looks a lot easier then it is".But according to you,you only played baseball and beyond, but because of that we're supposed to believe you know being a goalie is the hardest position in sports.
Then in post 10 when asked how being a goalie is the hardest position in sports. You start confronting the person with "what sports have you played big man",or even more relevant to the question of a goalie being the hardest position in sports,"who have you KNOWN that played pro anything or even D1 anything".So even if he had known Michael Jordan or Tom Brady, what would that have to do with anybody knowing "that being a goalie is the hardest position in sports",absolutely nothing unless your personally the one doing it yourself.
Then after he responds to your question of "what sports you play big man",you go off with ""doubt you even sniffed the bench in HS".Then start telling us because your son plays in the USHL and has a division 1 scholarship as a goalie, that somehow gives YOU the supreme knowledge of what is "the hardest position in sports",all because your son plays it.How would what your son has done, give you any knowledge as far as any other sport. Was your son a pitcher or QB,if not how would HE even know whats a harder position to play, let alone YOU supposedly knowing?
I get it your son has been successful being a goalie, and Im sure he has worked his a** off to get where he's at.But just because of that,it doesn't mean his position is the hardest position to play,or because of him being a goalie that gives YOU the knowledge to know what is the hardest position to play.

No Buzz Lightyear, the only point you did even try to make in your response in post 15 was
1.my whole post was a pathetic attempt to criticize with no real substance.
2.and that I'm a mental midget, that should go back to the shallow end so adults could talk.
3.And then your math (32 NHL teams x 2 spots)
So could you point out all the other good points that you made, cause I am "having a hard time tracking them".Maybe my simpleton head doesn't quite understand the "Its okay. You are a good boy".And the "Bless your little heart" comment. The rest of your mumbo jumbo doesn't make much sense either, but I guess that's where you get the beyond from,in your baseball and beyond comment.Keep thinking you know everything Buzz, then go all Nancy when someone confronts you about your BS reasoning.

This guy sounds like a supreme loser. I started and played rep every year for every sport I played not that any of this sh:t matters lol. I also played with a number of NHLers during that time but again who the f cares? You sound like the living, breathing definition of a total dweeb. Showcasing your and your “son’s” athletic “accomplishments” on a betting forum. Your college baseball (LOL) career really makes you an expert on all sports.

It takes a special kind of person to play goalie in hockey. Of all position I've played it's the hardest and has probably the most responsibility of any position in a team sport. Last line of defense if you will..
Theres nothing like making a breakaway save in a 1 goal game in the last period to get your team the win.
The mental aspect is about as hard on a goalie as a tennis player or golfer where you have no one else to rely on or blame for that matter.
A baseball pitcher no doubt also has a ton of responsibility also..
Just my 2 cents on it.
Also everyone wanted to be the star quarterback or pitcher back then right? No one wanted to or should I say had the balls to be a goalie. They were always few and far between. Like I say, ya gotta have a few screws lose to stand in front of a 90mph slap shot. But man it's a rush! Lol
