How many toothless hockey players will it take for them to finally wear full face masks?
Yes but if they start wearing it as kids and become accustomed to it then it shouldn't feel weird wearing the whole thing as professionals. The hockey injuries are brutal and so is the NFL but at least they have taken many steps to make the game safer.

There are lots of equipment safety upgrades the NFL has made throughout the years and continues to make tremendous strides even today. Go visit playsmartplaysafe. Also, I am not disagreeing with you on what the NHL has done but I am merely stating one seemingly correctable and brutal problem.

Maybe I am fooled into thinking the NFL actually cares about its players. However, I would hope that there are those within the leagues that are actively fighting for better safety measures. I understand that injuries do happen but when losing teeth are a part of the game, I think somethings needs to be done.

You are right that people often take part in risky and dangerous activities. Many even enjoy the thrill or adrenaline rush that they receive from it. However, from a sociological perspective, there must be a line drawn in the sand somewhere. Sport-induced sadism is a real societal problem. In ancient Rome, unarmed and naked individuals would be pitted against a variety of wild beasts and be shredded into pieces for entertainment. That is extreme but we can see a modern version of this in our sports today. How many boxers suffering from brain damage does it take for us to realize that we need to prioritize safety? I am not saying to get rid of the sport but to make it reasonably safer. That kid who fell off the tree could've died. Also, how many other kids have to be injured to where you have to draw the line on fun? Are there not other ways for kids to have fun? Athletes who choose to partake in these activities whether it is their passion for the sport, monetary gains, or whatever the reason should be able to do so and I have nothing against that. However, when there is a systemic problem within a particular activity, especially one with a viable solution, then I believe there must be action. You say these athletes are gladly accepting these circumstances. That is ridiculous. Completely ludicrous. Actually, it is the complete opposite, athletes are strongly advocating for better safety measures. With some even leaving the sport that they love because of the risks involved.

There's a risk to playing professional sports. Part of why athletes make so much money. If it's to dangerous play golf, tennis or badminton. Athletes know the risk. Should everyone be bubble wrapped and coddled. WTF is happening in this world.
