How could you ever bet the 'over' in an NBL match ?

total opened at pinny at around 164 and closed at 165.5 I believe. I was even flirting with the over earlier today - two teams with no real motivation other than to run up and down and pad their stats. Thankfully common sense kicked in when I ran an eye over both squads and wondered who would drive the flow of points ? A bunch of second rate NBL jump shooters ? 

Clearly there was some decent cash for it though and after a 58 point first quarter, most would've been fairly confident

haha you gotta be fucking kidding me 

so what's that 60 point opening or 58 in the 1st quarter then they shoot 24 in the 2nd I tell you whenever I do bet the NBL I try and take the total because I seriously cannot trust any of these guys in the league to close out matches or vice versa, I am probably 1-6 in NBL totals too so why I bother is cos I'm a typical gambler, I can't stand the league, hate it and wish they would show ads on the ONE HD channel cos it takes up time. I took what I thought to be the safest possible bet the other day and I par;ayed Breaker to win by over 5.5 points along with a few other sports and would you believe they had a steal in the final 8 seconds and the useless prick had a free layup no one around and breakers up by 5 and what's he do? He misses a unguarded layup  Typical bullshit and am pretty hopeful this NBL league will die out like it was not too long ago because the quality and atmosphere is extremely poor

I was watching that last few seconds........You are right, it was an uncontested layup, i think it was Bruton out of all people.

you know Rostos whe you actually step back and think about the bigger picture it really does put a doubt in your mind in terms of matxh fixing etc because New Zealand have just had one of their worst natural disasters ever with the earthquakes and the total damage bill is in the millions+ even after donations and government funding, one just senses that the amount of money that would have been on the line considering Breakers were 14 point favourites and even the experts had predicted an absolute thumping etc. TAB is a governent owned business the annual profit from this well oiled machine helps pay hospitals, schools and other important bills and addicts are infact being fucked up the ass by our very own government. I think it's not surprising we had a tight game and quite possibly a large amount of funds from this particular match was used to help with the disaster and rebuilding.

I don't mind if my burnt money helped out but it would be shocking to know it really would happen because if it happens in this shitty league then what about the other great codes like AFL

geelong, i wouldnt go that far....

But i would definitly say these NBL players for the whole majority arent on a very good salary, hence i have no doubt, towards the end of the regular season where games dont count, try and get a bit of extra pocket money on the side.....Why not? I would do it.

After all, is there an anti corruption unit within the NBL? i highly highly doubt it. Especially the untelevised games, who is ging to know about a missed layup or 2 or a few FT's?

I have no doubt the refs also are feasting on this.....

remember when i kept on whinging and bitching about Penney coming back into a game when they were up by 15 with 1 min 10 left, yet alot of people on here thought it was normal and tried to justify it........

I am sorry, but that was as blatant as i have seen

you guys bag the standard of the NBL all the time but what are you comparing it to ? NBA ? Euroleague ?

anyone who follows college basketball would have to agree that for the most part the standard is horrific - take out the bells & whistles of cheergirls & student fans going crazy - there is very little quality basketball on show.

while aside from the big guns in the Euroleague the standard for the most part is on level with the NBL, try watching some of it sometime.

granted the NBL has dropped of in standard over the past 2 years or so yet it's not that bad on a global stage.

however betting wise it's a head-fuck

NBL players are the worst athletes in sports! No disrespect if you are a baller yourself but come on manthe league is a fucking joke and always will be until they finally shut it down. Let's sit back and watch a fine example tonight the Tigers versus the Blaze...we will see missed jumpers with no defending, missed layups here and there and those black guys who never made in the US try and be hero's against these white boys who can't even manage to get off the ground putting the white man can't jump theory to test. Bullshit league only watch it to gamble but would honestly watch women's netball

I used to love the NBL back in the earlier to the mid 2000's.

Players like Rucker, Brett Maher, Willie Farley, John Rillie, Matt Nielsen, Heal, Franklin etc.

The imports for the most part used to be quality. What the F### was that Adelaide import earlier this year? Seriously, what was that?

Imports used to be stable back in the era i am talking about. It feels like they are chopping and changing imports every 2 months.

The game has fallen back so much in terms of talent the last 2 years its not funny.

For the most part, it is atrocious. The refereeing is even worse.

again, what are you comparing it to ? i understand if you're simply a novice with the sport & only watch for gambling purposes yet if you ever watch any other league aside from the NBA you'd most likely have a different outlook to the NBL then you do at present.

As Rostos says the quality has dropped off a little in recent seasons, mainly due to the lack of $$ in the league.

Still i've always noticed alot of Australians have an inferiority complex when in comes to both soccer and basketball - mainly due in part to our football codes being predominantly limited in their international opportunities & self-proclaiming their codes as the world's finest...so you're not alone with those sentiments

ever heard of Stephen Jackson ? well, he got cut from the Sydney Kings before making in big time in the NBA..

Here's a few other nbl players who have amazingly reached the heights of the nba

Andrew Gaze, Chris Anstey, bradtke, rob rose, Kirk Penney, Dwayne Mcclain, Shane Heal, Ricky Grace,  Lanard Copeland, Chris Jent, Adrian Branch, Kevin Brooks, Darnell Mee, Rodney Monroe, Todd Lichti, Doug Overton, Todd, Fuller, Jo Jo English, Evertte Stephens, Acie Earl etc etc

and yes, there's even a few white boys there which will probably astonish you.
