IOC foolish in not inviting Spitz to Beijing

The International Olympic Committee should be ashamed of themselves after not inviting Mark Spitz to the Summer Olympics. What a great moment it was to see Michael Phelps' and his teammates somehow come back to defeat France by eight one-hundredths of a second. It would have also been a great moment to see Spitz (who won 7 gold in Munich in '72) be there to congratulate Phelps after he won his 8th gold in Beijing?

Spitz made it worse by crying publicly that he deserve to go and bitched that the IOC owes him an invitation.  The bottom line is "what have you done for me lately?".

I think Spitz needed to address it though, because it should have been a no-brainer that he should have been invited. IOC still had time to fly him down there after he went public last week.
