In 1956 the most important fashion designers contended for Grace's wedding dress commission. She won Helen Rose, the stage designer of the latest film starring the actress, Alta società. The dress was made with the help of 35 seamstresses, reworking a dress used in that film. To make it happen there were 24 meters of silk taffeta and the same number of silk gros de longre, while a precious Valenciennes lace was used to cover the shoulders. The very long veil was decorated with 1000 pearls and lace. The prayer book used by Grace was covered in silk with a cross of beads. Roses and lilies of the valley were chosen for the bouquet (for brides who choose a low-cost wedding , here are the most beautiful models). The dress was donated to the Philadelphia museum.

The marriage was organized in the name of luxury and effort. Among the 700 guests were numerous Hollywood stars, such as Cary Grant, David Niven, Gloria Swanson, Ava Gardner. But also the great magnates of the time, from Aristotle Onassis to the Aga Khan. The festivities lasted two weeks. At the end of the ceremony the bride and groom got on a Rolls Royce to greet the crowd that had come to watch the event. Grace and Ranieri left for a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Deo Juvante II yacht. The honeymoon lasted two months.
