SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sabercats have acquired veteran wide receiver Maurice Purify, the League office announced today.
Purify
(6-3, 230, Nebraska) enters his fifth season in the AFL and his first
with the SaberCats. He comes to San Jose having hauled in 391 passes for
5,560 yards and 131 touchdowns during his time in the League. After
earning AFL Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Arena honors with the
Georgia Force in 2011, Purify joined the Arizona Rattlers
where he won three consecutive ArenaBowl championships. He earned
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game honors at ArenaBowl XXV
after setting a title game record with seven receiving touchdowns.
Prior
to coming to the AFL, Purify spent time in the National Football League
as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008. A
product of the University of Nebraska, he earned Second Team All-Big 12
honors as a senior after catching 57 passes for 814 yards and nine
touchdowns with the Cornhuskers. Purify finished his college career with
91 catches for 1,444 yards and 16 touchdowns.
