Good for him. He’s 38 and never going to win a major, I would cash in too.
Those stuffy WASP’s running the PGA don’t give 2 shits about any player on their tour, let alone an Asian “goofball.” Its all about that sponsorship money and not their bs “legacy” like they would lead you to believe.
Competition is healthy, it makes individuals and businesses up their game

When I think PGA I think great American tradition.
Interesting that they are so opposed to a Saudi run league but are fine being in bed with China.

Is that you, Jay...Mr. Monahan?
Interesting...the PGA Tour has had only 4 commissioners. The PGA of America has been around since 1916, but the PGA Tour only broke away in 1968. So it's not like this perceived threat to the orthodoxy of golf is happening for the first time. Several players were working hard behind the scenes to create a players organization, but if not for Arnie and Jack agreeing to back their play, the PGA Tour would not have happened as soon as it did. Here's how Michael Bamburger, a pretty famous golf writer, describes the 4 commissioners (beginning with Joe Dey): An ethicist. A player. A politician. A marketing man (that would be you, Jay).
And Rory, now chairman of the player's advisory council, is apparently a consigliere of sorts to Jay. Rory be turning into a real company man in fact lol. Great golf iq no doubt, but Rory's everyday iq be definitely under par (unnecessary cheap shot, but hey...). I'd put Kevin Na's real iq up against Rory's goofball iq any day of the week. Kevin's very popular with the fans and the players, while Rory's popularity is sliding as he gets more political.
So I guess with all the pro golfers in the world, the Tour can't abide letting their carded guys some leeway to grow their games, and their bank balances outside The Tour. Perhaps history is repeating itself? Who knows. We know it's all about star-power and sponsors who are mostly woke anyway. The Tour could care less about guys ranked above 100...because they'll rarely win a tournament. But they have to enforce one rule for all. How easy would it be to allow waivers for guys who haven't won an even in say, 5 years? All kinds of rumblings under the surface, and it's only gonna bubble up as the years go by and the PR folks try to downplay the discord.
Like Doja45 and BenHogan76 say...competition is the life blood of the sport, and there's enough hypocrisy to go around. The Tour can hardly claim the high road.
Cheers
