And yes PBOX Nation - I know you were wondering - I will be here to give out all of my horrible soccer picks as usual.  You dont have to beg.
 
I have studied and analyzed - and feel like I am primed and ready for this.  I was actually going to go - but has anyone looked in to prices in Switzerland?  Holy shit.  To go for a month would cost a fortune - and Im not kidding - a real fortune.  So I am home for this one saving up for WC 2010 in South Africa.
 
Games are at noon and 2.45 EST (2 each day) for the first few weeks so there will be lots of degenerate daytime opportunities.  I will be posting daily, and will have my preview ready soon.

Why don't you just sail your yacht over there. You could just live on your yacht and avoid the ungodly hotel costs. You could take your yacht out when the games are not going and do some deep sea fishing for your meals.

The first day matchups are interesting.  That first game is one of the best offensive teams vs one of the best defensive teams (switz).

Trivia question - what is the only team to get knocked out of a world cup without ever conceding a goal? 

Answer:  Switzerland 2 years ago.  They lost in a penalty shootout in the first knockout game, but went 4 games without conceding a single goal.

And the czechs are loaded as usual.  They have a lot of firepower up front and seem to have shored up their defense and have one of the best GK in the world in Cech.

Im going to probably be on the Czechs at a PK -104 at pinny.  I just dont think the Swiss will score and Im protected on a draw, and the czechs very well could win 1-0 or 2-0.

The other game - how can portugal not beat Turkey?  The price seems surprisingly low to me at -124 to win - but Im sure i will have to lay that.

As mentioned in another thread I've taken Portugal and Russia to win. I have seen first hand what Guus Hiddink can do to a team. Genius.
 
Taken some tournament head to heads, mainly betting against Germany and Holland

the dutch, danes, and greeks, 3 of the last 5 have been won by underdogs. italy has one title,  before most of us were born and england doesn't even know what it's like to lose the final, much less win one.
 
one trend to watch, the host team seems to do well . . .
'04, por is 2nd
'00 ned is 3rd
'96 gbr is 3rd
'92  swe is 4th, fellow scandinavian team den wins (only 8 teams in final)

If I may comment, I'm going to be on Switzerland. The Czech are without Tomas Rosicky, which is a huge loss. Also, they don't have Pavel Nedved any more, and with these two absent, their creativity just took a huge punch in the face.

The Czechs were beaten by Ghana at the WC in 2006. and it was visible then that this team is on a downtrend. Since then, Bruckner hasn't figured anything new. They will choke big time on a tournament like this. They did qualify for the Euros but playing a 2 year qualifying group and a 1 month tournament are two different things.

I think the Swiss are severely underrated. I will be on the Swiss pk for 2 units, one of my main bets of the opening round.

Sorry, forgot to add. Milan Baros hasn't played professional football for almost 2 seasons, not at high level anyways, and Jan Koller is older than ever. I think that will be a huge issue for Czechs.

I like Libor Sionko though, but overall I think Czech Republic will disappoint at the Euro.

Didnt realize Rosicky was out with injury for Euro - and this article seems to have backed up exactly your points.

I will reconsider my initial lean here.....
