Here's a recap of my handicap from yesterday (Phx ML):
Here is the classic "star player ruled out for a while" theory in full effect for its 1st game without that player. What tends to happen is everyone else on the team steps up to fill the void left, and in this case, Booker's points can easily be replaced by a more aggressive game plan by the Suns to feed Ayton the ball much more, and for Paul to be more active, looking to shoot when open, or take it to the rim and get to the line. This actually could boade very well for Phoenix, as this strategy could get New Orleans in early foul trouble, and especially if Ayton attacks Valinciunas early and gets him to pick up two fouls in the 1Q, then that should really give Phoenix a big advantage to build a significant lead into HT. Let's be real here, the Pelicans played the perfect game last time out, and only pulled away in the 4Q because they couldn't miss from 3, and the Suns were completely out of sorts with a pouty sad Booker sitting on the bench basically sulking like a little toddler, instead of pumping up his teammates with positive energy and supporting them from the sidelines. Tonight, Booker better be in full time cheerleader mode, because that could be the added energy boost Phoenix will need to play a perfect road playoff game, in order to gain back momentum in this series. We've seen it in the Memphis series, and I believe we'll see it here as well. The better better will bounce back immediately upon the change in venues, and take back full control of their series. The Suns should not only win this game, but the next two as well. Credit to the Pelicans for playing up to their full potential, and I think there will always be this sense of "just how good this New Orleans team could have been if Zion wasn't out of shape and just lost weight this past year"...it's really a shame this organization had to endure all this nonsense and drama over a guy like Williamson who was merely a media hyped darling, but obviously not built to be a full time NBA player at his current size, body type and weight.
Best of luck to all Suns backers!
