I'm playing 20-40 limit. I get K 7 off in the small blind and I am on a hot streak so I call. no raises. I have had a lot of luck with K 8 and K T type of hands lately for some reason. ( esp K 8, and if I don't play K 8 it always hits)
anyways flop is flop is Q T 7, I sense noone has anything in particular so I check, a guy bets who ended up having 5 5, a few callers, and I raise. everyone calls but I was killing this table so they are scared. I did want to get a free pass to the river though, as a J on the turn would leave me open ended, and a K or 7 of course would be good.
the turn is a 3, there is a flush draw now and the high straight draws, I check, I was gonna check raise again maybe, but noone bets. the river is a deuce. flush doesn't hit. so I got a free pass to river and now I have medium pair in a nice size pot. I check, everyone else checks, and guys are turning up there hands. Pocket 5's, pocket 4's, pocket 6's. then a few assholes with gutshot draws are turning up their hands w/ J high, 9 high shit like that. So I win w/ a pair of 7's , a nice pot, but if I bet the whole way, some of these assholes would have called w/ their gutsot draws, and some guys w/ low pockets can never let go. so I figure I lost a good $300 by not betting this the whole way through.

i don't see how more agressively you can play it. that's pretty agressive with that many players and that kind of board. I just can't believe people calling with 55,44.

I cant imagine it would be profitable to be betting middle pair on every street in an unraised pot, especially with that many other people in the hand.
as a J on the turn would leave me open ended, and a K or 7 of course would be good.
This leads me to believe that in your mind you needed to improve your hand in order to win or feel more confident, if this is your mindset then you dont need to be betting every street, it doesnt matter that they ended up having busted straight draws and underpairs, that was just fortunate for you, they couldve very easily have had 88, 99, j10, 109 etc

sometimes it is the situation, as in the round before this I was running over the table, turning over monsters, flopping a straight, getting a full house. the hands I was raising with were monsters. so people think holy shit, here we go again. then you raise with crap and people don't kno what to think the next time. you can drive guys crazy like this. sometimes you don't play your cards, you're playing other's cards.

What are you talking about, that has absolutely nothing to do with playing people's cards. What you are describing is having a lucky night which was making people gunshy, i guess. The best pros in the world play based off what there opponent has, however they do this in a heads up or 3 way situation. What you described was something like 5 handed. Are you trying to say that you knew that of the 5 opponents. none of them had you beat? You must have x-ray vision or something because there is no way that you can have that solid of a read on FIVE different players when there really hasnt been much action in the hand.

no, I am saying that I sensed everybody had missed, but I didn't know that I had the best hand because as you had said someone with 9 9 could feel scared and not bet. It wasn't worth it to bet but I felt that a raise on the flop would get free cards to the river.

You were attempting to check-raise back to back streets with bottom pair?
If you truly thought everyone missed and your check-raise gets called, I guess I'm surprised you didn't bet it out on the turn (I suppose one could say you missed a draw with an open ended straight possibility or something). If I'm check-raised and then the guy who did that checks AGAIN on the next street, I'm only betting if I'm pretty sure I have that guy beat or if I'm confident he was on a draw.
I just don't see how the approach of back to back check-raise attempts fits into this hand. If the guy has anything, he's getting pretty good odds to call a straight bet by you.....and if he has you beat, then you're just digging your grave. And who wants to give a freebie with such a vulnerable hand as you had?
I have to agree with spoon...if you really thought you had the best hand, then I bet it out on the turn. If you didn't know, then you were on a fishing expedition if you ask me.
And how was a raise on the flop going to get you free cards to the river? You were in the SB and had lousy position.
Just my $.02.

A double check raise with 3rd pair in a community pot, damn you have balls I'll give you that. I don't think you can call the intended play on 4th street a value bet. Flop play is fine if you have a read you have the best hand and it's true if you have been showing monsters and bossing the table these kind of players will be afraid of you.
And how was a raise on the flop going to get you free cards to the river? You were in the SB and had lousy position.
Maybe the other motherfuckers would be spooked he was gonna check raise them again. Always hilarious when that happens twice in the same hand, trying to tease out who's doing what and why will drive you .
This is one dumbassed game, I like it. Like the way there are 5 guys turning up their bs hands, suppose it was advertising for later on. Wasn't at Foxwoods by any chance?
