Was playing on-line last night $1/$2 NL on pokerstars. I came to the table with $200 about 15 minutes ago and am up to $280. I am UTG with Q Q and raise $8 to make it an even $10 to call behind me. Person in late position calls and BB calls.
Flop comes Jd Qd 5s
BB checks and I bet $20. With a possible open ended straight draw and a flush draw on the board I want to make them pay to see the turn, otherwise I would have slowed played my set. Late position calls, BB folds.
Turn comes Jd Qd 5s 6h. I bet $30, late position raises me another $30 and I call.
River comes Jd Qd 5s 6h 6d. I bet $40 he comes back over the top again with a raise of $40. I am just about to raise my remaining $110, thinking he made his flush, probably ace high because of the call preflop. I then think of the raise on the turn when the first six hit. I just call the $40 even though I know in my gut what he is going to turn over. 6 6 for the quads to bet my boat.
Had to hang it up for the night after that hand because there was no way I could continue in that state of mind.

Fork-
If you made him pay to see the turn with those draws out there then why in God's name did you just call his bet ON the turn and let him see the river for cheap???????
I would have popped his a$$ on the turn and forced HIM to make a wrong decision. He might have won all my money in the end, but I'd live with it to be honest.

Good point that was a weak play on the turn by me. I think with the set of 6's he would have called and the end would have been the same, but if he was on a draw and hit on the river not much I could have said for not reraising on the turn. Thanks for the input

You will not believe this, but I was playing on line last night and had to deal with this hand:
It was a tournament.....$30K guaranteed......about 100 left.
I had 2-2 in late position and called un-opened pot.....button raised standard.....SB and BB folded. I called. Flop was 2-2-3. I checked. He bet pot and I called again. Turn is a 5. I check again and he bets pot. I put in a sizeable re-raise (I had him covered, but not by a ton and I thought he was committed) and he re-raises all in. I obviously call. He has 5-5 for a boat (5's full of 2's). I have quad 2's on the turn. River is a 5 and I'm crippled. Lost quad 2's to quad 5's.
Next hand, I get Q-Q. Facing one raise, I jam. BB calls with A-K and hits a K on the river (other guy called with 10-10 and lost as well).
You have to love this game.

forboy you may feel good about saving that 110 or whatever but you really are costing yourself money here
Repop the turn anyway, but you gotta stick it in on the river. If you're gonna be scared with top boat you should quit.

Yes as Hutch says you have to push on the turn. I mean its Christmas- you have the nuts and you can likely get all the money in- you can't ask for anymore than that.

That is incredibly unlucky losing quads to quads. Not yet happened to me.

Obv the guy has two pair or a set on the turn and isn't getting away. When he makes it $60 total easy shove on him and you get autocalled by his 66.
By playing it the way you did you are losing value. On the turn he will be more than happy to get it all in with 66, however if the river is any diamond, K,T or maybe even a 9 or Ace he will be a lot more cautious(as you will more than likely).

Both have close to 2k in front of us. I get Kings and raise to 50 dollars preflop (5-10 blinds). One loose guy calls. Flop JJ5. We both Check. Turn King. I bet 100 and he calls. River I sense in his eyes he has a monster and realize he knows I am a tight player and probably called me with a pocket pair. I check river and he bets 250. I just call and end up losing 400 instead of 2k to his quad jacks

Good play Insight. I probably would have lost more on that hand. With him being a loose player I could not have put him on quads.

He was so pissed when I just called and showed kings full. The entire table gave me props. In fact, it is that hand that led me to my first meeting with my poker mentor. He respected the play, although he said he would have paid the guy off. It turns out that we became friends and he helped me become the player I am today. He finished in the top 100 at the World Series, the guy is insane.
