Literally millions of people do - all over the world. Personally, I do not. I'm on the fence on this one. So many people I know do it, win money, etc and say it's perfectly legit. But, you read about cheating (both people and software) all the time.
There is one thing that even the experts agree upon, there is no way of stopping collusion (working as a team, with instant messages and cell phones). The software is supposed to detect certain plays to be able to catch this, but there is no way it can get everyone. For example, the software is supposed to detect things like folding huge hands, while one or two other people continue to win. This can easily be avoided by crooks by simply splitting the money, as in....cheater #1 wins this hand, his buddy, cheater #2 wins the next, and their friend cheater #3 wins the next. They all cash out at the end of the month and split the money. It's that simple.

That's the thing mmac, I know tons of people, just like yourself that do it, and do just fine. I wouldn't be afraid to play low-limit stuff myself, if I were ever inclined to make a deposit.
Just to elborate on my collusion example, you know, if you think about it, 2 or 3 guys (maybe even 4) could make alot of money at full (9-10 seated) online sit-and-go tables. There would be no way any kind of software program could catch with multiple people (more than 2). You'd simply see who has the best hand, and your 2 other coherts would just play it normally until the end of the hand. If any of your partners get flopped anything better, you just readjust and go with that hand. Man.....I think too much.
Just an FYI - I don't play online, nor do I or ever have had a money account online, so everyone can relax.

I completely agree that collusion can and is a problem. But I think it's isolated. I've been playing online for a few years now and there are a few times, primarily in SNG's surprisingly where I'm nearly certain there was collusion. There was no other way to explain the play. I suppose somebody with more time and energy than me would report it, but I'm not sure I'll get anywhere besides wasting some of the moments and breaths that I have in this life. If I suspect it I just try to combat it as best as I can......basically just hyper-aggression and force them to make decisions rather than the other way around. But these collusion instances have been relatively few and far between. I'm sure there are a few I missed......but, like I said you can collude in a live game as well. It isn't at easy but it can be done and rest assured it is being done in lots of Vegas cardrooms as we speak. Like I said, that's life. I have enough problems trying to play well and worry about my problems before I worry about others.
I don't blame people who don't want to play online. In my case it's mostly something to pass the time with and to have a little fun. In my case it works fine.
Thanks, MWC. It is always nice to hear rational thoughts on this topic. Most people can't discuss without some kind of freakout.
