The other day when I was playing a $20 sit and go ..I realized something.And I seem to do this ll the time when I'm playing.I give to much credit to bad players.Now listen I know experts arent playing $20 sit and go's but thats what I play...and I like to think that I know what the hell Im doing and consider myself a decent player.I have been playing poker now for almost 6 years and I have read numerous books...Super System,Harrington on Holdem ect..I respect the game and I take it serious and try to play my best no matter what the stakes.But it just seems that I put players on hands and when they show it's complete junk.Now people might say well you are easy to bluff and a idiot..but I just think that I give players too much credit.Do you guys ever feel this way?Like after the hand is over your like why would I ever put that douchebag on a good hand?Its very frustrating..

It depends......where are you playing??? Cause if you are playing on the Internet, it doesn't matter what you put your opponent on, cause he/she will hit it, even if it's a 1 or 2 outer...........especially if you are playing on that joke of a site FULL TILT

If you had read all the books you mentioned then you should already know before playing any hand on a table you should get a good read on what sort of players your dealing with by table image. This is one of the 1st things i ever do on a table know who is capable of a bluff, who is the rock, calling stations etc. You can do this by studying the hands they play and once you get a good read of your opponents it makes it a bit easier for you to determine the range of hands they are capable of playing.

its impossible to know how ppl are playing in a tournament online. what i usually do is give them more credit the higher the stakes. for 20 dollars it would take less to get me in than in a 100 dollar game. its not because of the difference of the money, but because the caliber of the player is usually higher at the bigger games (not always the case though)! i would suggest intently watching the game at first though and try and get the best read possible on your opponents.

I think thats the problem 3ball...my online play isnt even close to my live casino play.
Online it comes with a lot of practice - betting amount, betting patterns and also the amount of time taken to make a bet are all key in reading your opponent. Also use the notes function - take notes on key hands played by your opponents, what he bluffed with, what hand he raised with, note the donkey/loose players, tight players etc.
For instance ,and this is a basic example, i got moved to another table in the middle of a tourny that had been going for about an hour and a half i was watching closely the hands played by all the players on the table specifically one guy who i read as tight/conservative only playing big hands...........i happened to get into a pot with him heads up i flopped top pair with a good kicker and he raised me almost 3/4 of my stack, i laid down and he showed me 2 pair. That's probably the most basic of reads but studying players is vital even more so online.

That's funny I have the opposite problem, and I call and they have it.
but honestly, giving too much respect isn't a bad thing, unless your letting players walk all over you. That's your Harrington game coming out. Try poker office or some kind of HUD, it will help you keep track of players.

It's a fact that people play a wider variety of hands and bluff more on line....even more so at cheaper entry fee games. I've played $20-$100 SNG's and I've played in varying ways (I try to adjust my play to how the table is playing...I'm not always great at that).
You mention you've read Harrington.....you know he gives people a 10% bluff number just to start out.....you adjust it based on what you know about the person or learn during the game. I'd put that number closer to 20% for on-line SNG's (maybe a bit less as you get into higher $ ones). I might make a great call and win a big pot, but I also might piss away my chips 3-4 times out of 5....and that's no good. I think you really have to have a decent reason for staying in a hand other then, "he might be bluffing." It's just not enough because you don't have any non-verbal stuff to go by (in terms of reads).
In the end, I'm much more successful if I play solid and don't try to make the miraculous call. In fact, I spend much of my time trying to determine when I will best be able to steal at the table....and when I think the time is right, I'll make a move with absolutely anything only because I think it's a really good situational play.
In other words, I spend my energy trying to figure out the best way to be aggressive (without being reckless), not trying to make an amazing call when I really don't have any idea what a player has other then a hunch.
You might feel like a donk letting people run you over....but, they might do it 4 times and then you might get all their chips the 5th time.
People on-line are often impatient....make them beat you....don't give them any help even if it means folding when you have a hunch your being horswaggled.
