So, everyone says the level of play is generally weaker during the month of the WSOP. This is the first full year I've been here during this time, and it's been my recent experience that it's not true.
I've found the competition to be a bit tougher. Example, I stopped by Harrahs last night and jumped in a 1/2 NL game. It was grinder, with mostly experienced players trading chips back and forth. Four of the guys had busted out of the 1500 NL Event over at the Rio the day before. I was joking with them, telling them I was looking for a soft tourist game and "this ain't it." We all laughed.
I didn't stick around too long. Not that I was afraid of them, it's just that you generally can't make the money you can in a situation like that, as you can on a table of fish.
Just my two cents.

No reason to stick around a game like that in Vegas, or anywhere for that matter.

I think the only mistake you made was playing at Harrah's, from what I hear they have alot of locals/rocks, tough game to beat
Here are some of my notes about the games during last years WSOP
The top 5 weakest rooms were (in order from weakest to strongest games)
1. Rio - BY FAR...the $2 - $5 No Limit Cash Games in the Amazon room was so soft it was scary....a few of us just sat there and waited for the Tournament donkeys to bust and sit down and it was like taking candy from a baby, these guys were so locked into Tournament mode they did not stand a chance
2. IP - really a joke of a game....in fact I had a buddy who just sat in the IP $1 - $2 game all week and did not have a single losing day....just bad bad players here.
3. MGM Grand - very weak $1 - $2 players, the $2 - $5 game was a little better but still always had a couple of donators.
4. Bellagio - the $1 - $2 was a joke, nobody knew what they were doing....tourist heaven. Dont mess with the $2 - $5 game here, alot of cash game pro's in this one....I felt like we were all just passing chips back and forth and paying the rake.
5. Planet Hollywood - alot of late night drunks here at the $1 - $2 level, I would never sit in this game until around 1am....but damn can we say ATM machine!
This was a little over a year ago (about the first week of the WSOP) I dont know if things have changed but I hope this helps.
