played a tourney on full tilt last night got 6th outta about 190, couple bad beats at the end. seems to me that people try and play it like no limit, calling 2 bets cold with crap. if you are a newer player, try and learn how to play games like limit holdem, 7cardstud, omaha pl, because the waters are pretty warm, i dont even consider myself good in these games and made 2 striaght final tables, a 2nd place in the omaha even.

I played in the $1,500 Buy-in H.O.R.S.E. World Series event this year and it was a blast, that was some REAL POKER....playing nothing but No Limit Hold'em is foolish yet 99% of the newer players only limit themselves to this one game

clowninmyside, how is limit hold 'em different from no limit hold 'em with regards to winning strategies? I've been playing 6-12 limit, 8-16 limit, and 20-40 limit hold 'em at a local casino since December of 2007. Would appreciate any tips to improve my game to have more winning days than losing days. Thanks for the advice, clowninmyside. You know, I read hold 'em books and magazine articles, and they all say aggression is good. I then take that and apply to the 6-12, 8-16, and 20-40 limit hold 'em games. I swear, in these limit games, they don't know when to fold. When you 3 bet and/or cap with KK and AA, they will call you with 64 off suit or 109 off suit. I swear, it seems to me in these limit hold 'em games, they will pay any price to see the flop. And once they get a piece of the flop with their 64 or 109, your KK and AA are dead. How do you handle these players?
I always raise with KK and AA. But if raising preflop does not eliminate players with marginal hands, do you still raise with AK and AQ in early position? And there's so much slow-playing in limit hold 'em, especially 6-12 and 8-16. And because of my aggression, I lost my shirt playing with these type of players. Any advice? Thanks.

limit is just a totally different game, in No -lim, you generally don't wanna chase unless you are getting a good price. Limit is all about making straights and flushes, there you can rake inhuge pots. Generally you need 2 pair or better to win if there are a lot of callers. Depending on what your position is , if you have AA or KK, it may not matter if you raise pre-flop, as there will be chasers to the river anyway- nothing you can do. It is a different form of poker, more of a real poker game, as no lim. can be a donk all-in fest.

Cash Games learn the math.....plain and simple. If you can master the mathematics of Poker you can play any limit cash game out there. It's a boring grind that you can basically do on auto-pilot but it's easy money.
Tournaments you can throw the math out the window. This requires blunt force agression mixed in with amazing people reading skills. One of the reasons Limit Hold'em tournaments are not as popular then No Limit. Tons upon tons of more skill needed.

many times in limit with the odds you can chase and do OK, for ex, pair and a flush or straight draw, or a pair w/ a big kicker. Stay away from drawing to 2 small pairs as those have a way of getting counterfeited on the river.

you are either right to draw in limit....or your wrong to draw in limit
