sometimes it is better to take a few weeks off from all poker and poker related stuff just to refreash ourselves, gl andyou will be ok just clear your head for a bit.

Take a break for a week. The worse thing you can do is jump up limits or start playing NL if your a limit player. You can always drop down to 2/4 or play some 1/5 spread for a while.

I'd say the worst thing you could do would be to increase your limits or play more. As it is, you're probably frustrated to the point of where you aren't playing your normal game anyway....and that isn't ever good. You play different...maybe win a little bit cuz you get lucky....then you start to think that you've stumbled on the key to success. In reality, any short term lucky gains will be given back. Whenever I take some time off, I come back with a lot more perspective.....and I'm not so emotionally upset that I can tell when I'm playing well and whether I'm making the right plays. When I'm frustrated/pissed, I have a hard time doing that.

I was in a similar streak last year, and it was not nice. If I were you, I would take a couple of weeks off. You may be suprised that how taking two weeks off can make such a difference. Don't think about poker or losing during this period. Rent a movie, get some rest, go out bars and get some, read a book, or whatever.
You shouldn't continue to play because of your current mentality. If you get in a game now, you're already thinking of bad beats. Already, this will affect how you'll play. You need a clear mind when playing this game. When I prepare for a session, I don't think about losing or winning for that particular. I just think about playing poker. You have to be at ease. Believe it or not, before I start each session, I would take a shit in the same casino bathroom just to ease my mind.
Trust me. When you come back from two weeks, you will have your A-game at the table. Even if you lose in your "comeback session", so what? You're still alive and young. And life is good to you.
Keep in mind that: How you react when things are ugly is indicative of what kind of a player you are. Anybody can look good when things are nice and peachy(look at mike tyson).

Increasing your limits is probably one of the worst things you can do. To be honest, I read your posts over the past few months. Have you ever formally learned about poker by reading books like Theory of Poker or Advanced Limit Hold'em? If not, I think it would be really profitable in the longrun to do so. Also, if you want to go to a very good poker forum (not sure if its wrong plugging another forum) search 2+2 forum. It's THE forum for the top online poker players in the world and everyone else wanting to get better. Want to know the forum Brian Townsend posts on?...its 2+2 forum. They have sections where you can posts hands and see what you did wrong and also sections explaining how to play.
I also suggest cardrunners.com which has videos of pros playing and explaining their moves. Its run by Taylor Caby, probably the second or best online player in the world next to Brian Townsend aka sbrugby (who just joined the site and posts his first video).

not to be a dick, but u say u have lost 750 playing 4/8. that eqivilates to one buy-in, if you are buying in for the correct amount. and that is really not that bad, many people lose their original buy in and then some. Sure, it sucks that you are not winning, but to be having as bad luck as you claim to be having, only losing 750 playing 4/8 isnt so bad.
A few sugguestions:
1. take time off. its the best thing to do for you mentally. but if you are a degenerate like me, then
2. play 1/2. i always say, the blinds dont matter as much as the term "no limit" matters. Once the flop comes, there is not too big a difference between 1/2 than 10/20. just be patient. you can easily win all your money back in one session of 1/2
3. read super systems 2. its the bible, plain and simple

young one...its 4-8 LIMIT not no limit . so 750 is a few buy ins (about 5)... im still up since about september but not much at all after this latest run
i have the sklansky book "winning big in small stakes hold em" thats a pretty good book
last year i played a higher limit 10-20 and did well for a while but then after a couple of losing days i dropped back down just because i couldnt afford a ton of losing days if i were to play in a higher game (500 buy in a day is a lot if you have a few losses) but i went to play that after a few weeks of winning at 4-8 then i lost one sesson and said "maybe i take a shot while i have $" right now i have $ but not in the right frame of mind i guess to move up...good points by those of you that made it
quick aside...i gave my brother 200 last night to go play 1/2 NL he picked up 600.. so i gave him half and was happy to win a couple of bucks

NJ, I have noticed that other than you, I seem to be one of the only other people that post in here that play 4/8 kill on a regular basis at the casino (not online). I ran like your current situation late last year (from Sept. to about late Oct.!!).
Once all the b.s. with the gambling law went down and my downhill slide where I couldn't pull a winning session out of my ass, I just quit all together (online and live)...but I didn't take a couple weeks off...I took a couple months off. I went through some of Oct., all of Nov., all of Dec., and half of Jan. before walking into the poker room again. Played 4/8 and won almost $400. Played for the first time since that winning session last Sunday night. Played 4/8 kill again and won exactly $550.00.
I know you can't take my route since you are a vegas local and i'm sure it's hard to stay away (i live an hour from my nearest casino), but think about giving yourself more time than a couple weeks if you really need it. Give yourself enough time to forget about the game. It seems to have really helped me.

Well put. Take care of yourself and things will get better. Stay mentally strong, don't fight to get back the money just yet.
