i play at pokerstars, my cousin transferred me 10 bucks a few months ago to get started, i've ran it up to 173 bucks since then, i play no limit .10 right now, started out playing nl .02,,,,,,,, before i move up to nl .25 i'll probably wait to see if i can build my roll up ai least few hundred more,,,,, i play almost everyday and some days for many hours so per hour profit is very small, probably not worth my time but i'm single with no family so i do it anyhow.
i take many bad beats and i still grind a profit so far, but it's like if not for some of these stupid beats i could make 50 bucks a day playing micro limits. tried a little bit of fixed limit but to boring to me and i took bad beats on the river way too often,,,, i suppose because if they flop small pair or have a draw they just wont fold and seems they hit on the river way to much, but i really have'nt played enough fixed limit to know for sure.
i started out a while back at fulltilt,,, ran 50 bucks to almost 1000 bucks in 4 or 5 months but then i started backing up, bad beats started coming all the time, next thing you know i have less than 600 bucks so i get pissed and cash out,,,,,,,,,, i was afraid they flipped the switch, and maybe these sites do flip the switch once you get to a certain amount but since i dont know for sure i've tried to figure out why it might have been my fault,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
here's what i probably did wrong,,,,,,,,,,, i was playing above my bankroll, was playin nl 1 dollar, should have been at the nl .25 level,,,,,,,,, probably best to have at least 20 buy in's for ring games and many more for tournaments,,,,,,, was logging too many hours, was getting mentaly wore down and did'nt realize it, started playing too many hands, when you win you get confident which then makes you start playing a little more carless than the way you was playing, you get over confident.
but the biggest mistake i think i make when i'm going bad is calling too many raises,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, players raise all the time, of course many times with stupid cards but many times with great cards,,,,,,,,,, if i start calling raises with AJ, KJ, KQ K 10, A 10, QJ offsuit and small pocket pairs it seems i never flop anything enough to make it worth it,,,,,,,,, when i have hole cards like these and someone raises i just pretend that the computer is trying to suck me in just to steal my money so i dont call,,,,,,,, when i'm patient it seems like the computer rewards me later on for having what it takes to be patient.
i save a lot of money also by not chasing nutt flushes,,,,, say i have A 6 of hearts and 2 hearts come on the flop,,,,,, many times someone will bet several blinds, it's hard not to call but when i do the flush just dont come very often and i'll end up losing several blinds,,,, when this situation happens i just pretend the computer is trying to suck me in,,,,,,, now if i get a free or cheap card then i'll play and if i hit the flush i'll hope somebody bets and get them this way, i hit more big flush pots this way rather than chasing and having to risk many blinds.,,,,,,,,,,, same with straight draws,, pot odds usually aint good enough if you have to call several blinds trying to chase it,,,, i just pretend the computer is begging me to call so it can steal my money, instead i wait until i can hit the straight for free or cheap and then hope to trap someone.
hope this helps someone play better ,,,,,,,,,, the bad beats will come from time to time so you must be patient,,,,,, going from 10 bucks to 173 bucks was'nt straight up, varience makes sure of that,,, if i can get to 200 bucks i may hit 150 bucks a few times first,,,,,,,,,, it's a grind just like sports betting.
