MWC, no disrepect, but the fact that the guy made a moronic play with his lower pocket pair is of little or no consolation. Opportunities to win the top prize come along rarely, if ever, in these MTTs. I know this from experience because I've lost many more times to lower pocket pairs than the other way around.
Will this guy that sucked out lose more in the long run. Probably so. But unfortunately, the same morons that help build your bankroll with these plays are going to be the same ones that severely cripple you or knock you out of a tourney. Too much luck is involved in MTTs, and skill can only carry you so far.
And it is exponentially better if you can win just 1 or 2 of these a year as opposed to just consistently making the money. This is due to the fact that the payoffs are so top heavy, which is unfair IMO. I think if you make the final table, almost everyone should make the same, but let the winner get a little more.
Pezeveng, good showing BTW. Your story definitely hits home, but you just have to shrug it off and savor any big payoff that you ever get. They will be few and far between. And I've played poker long enough to realize that if you break even in the long run or win a big tourney on occasion, you are definitely in the minority.
Pezeveng, good luck in the future, and I think the final table is mostly luck anyhow with the blind increases.
FWIW, I'd love to see how much these consistent winners in these MTTs buy in for with their multiple rebuys. I bet you their profit margin is nowhere near as high as most people believe.

True.
Ironically, I was "moron" last night as I sat down at a 1/2 NL table and busted out my $200 buy-in, in about 10 minutes with 4 hands- with 77, 88, AK, and a A2.
I won't get into detail with every hand, but I firmly believe I played them correctly looking back on it. The A2 hand showed a A23 on the flop, with villian holding a A3! That's the kind of night it was.
This was the first losing session I've had in over a month, so I can't really complain.

I play some low entry ($65~) tourneys every now and then. I'm not much of a tourney guy. Personally, I'd rather spend the 3-4 hours it takes in a tournament and apply that time to money games. I cruise around town looking for soft tables. I recognize many faces, and if the table is half full of local rocks, I move on.
Occasionally I will sit down, as I'm quite aware it helps my game playing against these guys. And, that's not to say that every table is full of nine seats of weak players, there's usually one or two player of some quality. It's easier to avoid tangling with one or two good players at a table, than 8.
Remember, I'm looking for profit, period. That's what I can't understand about some of these local guys that go to the same freakin' poker room every day and end up just trading chips with each other day in and day out. That's counter intuitive if you ask me. I've yet been to the Mirage, I will check it out, maybe tomorrow.
Good job with the tourneys peze....
