ABC settles Trump defamation suit for $15 million

Trump filed a defamation suit against Stephanopoulos after he asserted that Trump was found "liable for rape" in a civil case during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., last March.

After playing a clip of Mace discussing being a victim of rape, Stephanopoulos asked her, "How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw?" 

"You've endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape," Stephanopoulos said, alluding to the legal victory by Trump accuser E. Jean Carroll. 

Stephanopoulos repeated that claim ten times during his spat with Mace, despite the fact that a jury actually determined Trump was liable for "sexual abuse," which has a distinct definition under New York law.

ABC News said the network was "pleased" to have concluded the case.

"We are pleased that the parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit on the terms in the court filing," an ABC News spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

According to the settlement, ABC News will pay $15 million as a charitable contribution to a "Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for Plaintiff, as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past." Additionally, the network will pay $1 million in Trump's attorney fees.  

Trump is also suing CBS News for $10 billion in damages, stating the network practiced "deceptive conduct" for the purpose of election interference in its interview in October with Vice President Kamala Harris.

 All media that defamed President Trump should follow suit or otherwise be held accountable for defamation, which was done for the sole purpose of stopping Trump from becoming our president once again. Glad to see this settlement happening so fast.

I guarantee that anyone who calls Trump a racist has never looked into that case. It is the most ridiculous fiction ever written, yes written, as it all originated with a scandalous fictitious book. As a sidenote, that woman also accused Les Moonves of sexual assault. She took two men in the midst of sex scandals, Trump with Stormy, Les with a CBS employee, and while shopping a book titled Hideous Men, her big "gotcha" was to say, "Yep, those two guys assaulted me." Apparently nobody can keep their hands off of E. Jean Carroll.

New York judge say that Carrol! didn't fail to prove Trump raped her.  Jury found Trump liable. However New York rape definition is narrower than in other states. Penetration by fingers is labelled sexual abuse. ABC $15 million is less than $88 million awarded to Carroll.

E. Jean Carroll doesn't even remember what month "she was raped". Not even what season. Could've been early fall, could've been late fall. Could've been early spring. She doesn't remember because if she even narrowed it down to a month, it would give Trump an opportunity to proof he wasn't even in New York at the time.

Networks have failed miserably.

Look at how NETFLIX stole the NFL games on Christmas. They are so out of touch with the country.

I expect other networks will watch very closely what they say about anyone covered by their companies. And that goes for those announcing games. I can see it now....

The POS is suing the Des Moines Register for reporting on a poll he didn't like.

This is a small newspaper but is owned by Gannett.

The POS will cause this paper to spend millions to defend themselves which could possibly end up in bankruptcy.

ABC settlement is far from normal because New York jury found that Trump did rape Carroll with his fingers.  Also unlikely that plaintiff can prove malice which is required to win defamation lawsuits.  According to Civil discourse,  legal experts believe defendant ABC would have won defamation case but instead chose to settle out of fear to curry favor with Trump administration.  Disturbing that freedom of the press is threatened by authoritarian government.

You're a little late.

Think about this. She accused him of penetrating her with his penis. For the court to say they don't believe he penetrated her with his penis but did with his fingers tells you all you need to know. Everyone involved with that case knows damn well he didn't rape her. It would've bever even made it to trial in criminal court. It was a political hit job. Democrats simply wanted to be able to call him a rapist in a campaign. It backfired. He's president again and I doubt she ever gets a dime from him but hey, at least she sold some copies of her trashy harlequin novel.

I dare anyone who calls Trump a rapist to familiarize themselves with that woman, and her story. This isn't a defense of Trump. I don't give a damn about the man from a personal standpoint but I always call a spade a spade. That is one sick and twisted woman.
