Two analysts on PBS said that rising premiums under ACA was an under-discussed factor in Trump's upset victory. However, anybody who thinks that Republicans have the consumers' best interests at heart is essentially clueless about American politics.
Case in point - how did some drug and insurance company stocks react on the first day of trading after Trump's victory?
Aetna - up 4.66%
Cigna - up 5.46%
Prudential - up 5.36%
Merck - up 6.07%
Pfizer - up 7.07%
I am horrified that insurance companies soon may be able to refuse desperate people with pre-existing conditions.
Full disclosure - HRC was the biggest recipient of Big Pharma's political donations, so I don't claim that she has all the answers. That is another reason I voted for Dr. Stein.
I hope Trump (MUCH more likely some of his advisors because I don't think Trump is knowledgable on this subject) will come up with a sound plan that helps consumers more than drug and insurance companies. I am not optimistic about that happening, but if Trump wants to be re-elected, he should refuse to act like a typical Republican (Babushka consulted with Big Pharma before creating his prescription drug plan, putting big business before consumers like Republicans ALWAYS have in the half-century I have been following politics).
