Good for Beto! Abbott and Dan Patrick were in the middle of congratulating themselves with the "help" of Ted Cruz standing behind them offering tots and pears when Beto came right up front to their faces and laid into them. Patrick yelled back that this isn't about politics. But politics is EXACTLY what it's about. It's the lawmakers who change the laws.

Remarkable how quickly the slack-jawed Texans on stage tried to squelch Beto O'Rourke's right to free speech on an issue that affects us all.
Instead they claim that we should be solely focussed on "thoughts and prayers" - rather than solutions to prevent, or at the very least REDUCE the tragic events like this from occuring again and again and again and again.

Like Steve Kerr said, "we're being held hostage by 50 senators." It's all about politics and money. There's actually about 15 republican senators who aren't directly in the NRA's pockets. Those are the ones that need to be the Trumper turncoats. The rest of them aren't going to budge. I guarantee it.

Well first of all our whole system is f*cked if we allow lobbyists and corporations to basically buy our politicians, and their votes. How honestly could that not promote corruption on the part of the politicians.

Problem is that bad politicians are being elected. Instead of smart moderate candidates with the best ideas, system tends to favor selfish extremist candidates who can raise the most money. This is harmful for democracy and partly explains toxic polarization in politics.

Steve Kerr and senator Murphy gave the best and most impassioned speeches of the year.
Yes, it is all about politics..............though it shouldn't be.

Beto displayed the type of courage and leadership we are sorely short of in congress.

I have a lot more respect for Beto after today. I hope he can win over the state and reverse some of Abbotts disastrous policies. The Dems should take a page out of Beto's playbook. Many times the democrats in Congress are their own worst enemy. No idea how to play hardball. They can’t seem to get anything meaningful done, and all too often they let the wingnuts get away with murder….so disappointing. I'm crossing my fingers for at least some kind of red flag law.
