Growing up I always heard Morton'e toe called "greek toe". And being that the Statue of liberty has a design that harkens back to greek statues, both in the shape of her face and her dress (robes, sandals), I bet the toe is by design. If she was really a greek statue, she'd be sans robe and sandals. And she would be every kid in New York's favorite field trip.
Stu the greeks were konwn for the treatment of robes in sculptures "off the day." Granted the robes were used to accentuate the human form especially the female form. They were renowned for their skill in depicting drapery. I was art history student at Queens University years ago.
Speaking of Statue of Liberty, Jim Acosta v. Stephen Miller is worth a watch. Acosta qoutes inscription added after delivery of Statue, immigrants blah blah blah, Miller schools him on the history.
