OTTAWA -- The Canadian federal government says millions of records of registered long guns have all been destroyed, with the exception of court-protected data from Quebec.
No formal news release appears to have been issued by a Conservative government that has made repeal and destruction of the long-gun registry one of its bedrock promises.
Last year there were almost eight million firearms logged in the registry, including more than seven million non-restricted weapons.
Now that these data have been deleted, they can never be recovered -- even by Thomas Mulcair...said director of communications Julie Carmichael ...
We are delighted that the Harper government has followed through on its promise in such a timely fashion," Greg Farrant of the Ontario association said in a release.
-- The Canadian Press
Tony Bernardo, spokesman for the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, said: It's very important for everyone to understand the importance of the right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun, even if they don't have one themselves..
"For the state to force the registration of an essential piece of private property like a shotgun or a rifle, is an assault on the right to own private property in this country," Bernardo told QMI Agency.
"The only time a state has ever registered firearms is to tax them or to take them. "Firearms represent symbols of freedom to many people --- slaves have never been allowed to own guns."

Nobody cares about guns up here, dude. The only people I have ever met that own any are legitimate hunters. We actually aren't obsessed with these kinds of issues because we don't live our lives in constant fear of our civil liberties being taken away because they are never in jeopardy in the first place. Keep your wacky, schitzo shit to yourself and leaves us out of it.

gmd, in this country, the corporations tell people how to think through their mouthpieces, the politicians. so, anytime you have the politicians making a huge deal out of an issue and we're told our freedom is at stake if we don't vote a certain way, you can bet there is a corporation making a shitload of money behind it. nothing pays like propaganda, fear and pandering.
