I am patiently waiting for Stu to comment here...I know he's probably watched BOTH of these guys play and I'd love to hear his take on each of these two guys

Well, mccovey has a cove named for him and they both have impressive statues at the stadium, and a great Mexican place right next to the statues.

Meh. I wouldn't say great.
Freddie, i'm actually an A's fan and too young to have watched these guys. I have met Willie on two different occasions at Pac Bell... AT&T... SBC... whatever they're calling the park now. He was a really nice dude on both occasions. Some old timer season ticket holders I know have said the same. Oracle. The park is called Oracle now. I've also met Larry Ellison. I was a little bit awestruck. He's an impressive dude. And Pelosi is a first rate idiot. Nothing about this is shocking.

I remember seeing both play but was a too young to see Mays in his prime. I remember when Mays was traded back to NY in 72 (I was a big Mets fan as a kid....lived there for a couple years). He didn't play immediately. After one game when John Milner was brought in to PH, he was lustily booed. Headline the next day was "FANS WANT MAYS, BOO HAMMER". It means little to anyone here, but the older I get, the more special those memories are.

@THEMUGG
Same here my friend. I did not start getting into baseball until the age ten and never seen Willie Mays play. Of the two I know more about Willie McCovey.

Saw Willie with the Mets in 1973. Went with my dad. uncle and cousins. we walked past players parking and saw willies pink cadillac and his license plate said SAY HEY. I also remember his retirement speach at Shea. Although he only played a short time with The Mets, They still should retire his number for New Yorks sake.

"The Catch"
Legend has it that many Giant teammates KNEW he was going to make that catch. How? Mays had a habit of pounding his right hand into his glove before he made every catch. As he raced to center-field he pounded his glove and the rest is HIS-TOR-Y.
