Don Sherwood - On September 15, 2004, a woman locked herself inside the bathroom of Sherwood's Washington, D.C. apartment, and called 911 to report she was assaulted. When police arrived, the woman, Cynthia Ore, accused Sherwood of choking her, though he maintained he was only giving her a backrub. No charges were filed because both Sherwood and Ore refused to provide any details. The report of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department stated, "Both parties have left out significant information or are not willing to discuss in detail what actually happened
Vito Fasella - As a result of a DUI arrest in Alexandria, Virginia on May 1, 2008, followed by the public disclosure a week later that he had had an affair with Laura Fay, a retired US Air Force lieutenant colonel, that had resulted in a three-year-old child while Fossella was married,[1] he announced on his official website on May 20 that he had chosen to serve out the remainder of his term, which ended on January 3, 2009, but decided not to run for re-election.
John Edwards - A federal grand jury in North Carolina indicted Edwards in 2011 on six felony charges of violating multiple federal campaign contribution laws to cover up an extramarital affair to which he admitted following his 2008 campaign. Edwards was found not guilty on one count, and the judge declared a mistrial on the remaining five charges, as the jury was unable to come to an agreement.[2] The Justice Department dropped the remaining charges and did not attempt to retry Edwards
John Ensign -Between 2007 and 2008, Senator Ensign had an affair with Cynthia Hampton, who worked for a PAC supporting his campaigns. Her husband Doug Hampton was a close friend of Ensign and worked as a top administrative staffer in Ensign's Washington, DC office. The disclosure of the affair and Ensign's actions to keep it quiet, including finding other work for Doug Hampton as a lobbyist, resulted in investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Election Commission, and the Senate. In late April 2011, Ensign announced that he would resign his office as Senator on May 3.[44] In May 2011, the Senate Ethics Committee referred their report to the Department of Justice for investigation of possible violations of law.[45]
The Hamptons divorced and sold their house; Doug Hampton moved to California. In May 2012 he reportedly reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors on charges of illegal lobbying.[46] In 2014 he expressed bitterness that he had lost so much, while Ensign had escaped prosecution.
Chip Pickering - On December 7, 2009, Pickering was involved in a fight with the coach of a youth soccer team that coached against his son's team, and was charged with simple assault.[10] He was later sued by the coach he assaulted a year later in December 2010 .Pickering and his ex-wife, Leisha, have five sons, Will, Ross, Jackson, Asher, and Harper. On July 16, 2009, it was announced that Leisha had filed an alienation of affection lawsuit against Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd, a woman with whom Pickering allegedly had an affair.
