I would also suggest that in addition to becoming a National holiday, it be moved to Monday.
In the past, there has been attempts to make election day a holiday or move election to weekend to boost voters turnout. Some people are unable to vote because of their job. But status quo remains because of protestant tradition and political pressure. Holidays are expensive for employers and government is a big employer. According to wikipedia, 10 states made election day a public holiday though.

I'm not on board with the "holiday" based on the semantics of the word, but a "banking holiday" type of thing, I would support. I do like fubah's idea of moving it to a Monday.

Yeah, that would be acceptable.
But has no chance of ever happening until a day in the long distant future when the Democrats retake the House back from Republicans and also win a filabuster proof majority in the Senate.
In other words, not in our lifetime.

I would be in favor of some sort of holiday but I doubt this will happen withiin at least 10 years.
