Abortion. The Golden carrot that keeps the broke ass christians voting for the Republicans. All they have to do is dangle it out there. I take the time to explain this when one of our member's wants to voice his support for the Republican's. The conversation usually goes as follows

Kaplan "Look here Joe, they are never gonna ban abortion. If they did they would lose your vote."

Joe "Why the heck would they lose my vote?"

Kaplan "Because you simple fuck. If they ban abortion you have no reason to vote for them anymore."

And then You see it. In their eyes. That tiny little brain slowly working thru the haze. The fog from 40 years of Sunday morning's at the Baptist church and 13 years of learning at some backwoods school. And it clicks.

Joe "Sumbitch. Shoooot, I see what yer sayin now kap. Yer sayin if they done bant abortion, i wouldn't have any reason to vote for'em. Right?"

Kaplan "You got it schoolboy."

Joe "Sumbitches. You are one smart Jewboy Kap. Sumbitch."

I don't know why the dumbass Dem's won't call their bluff and renounce their defense of the right to choose. It would be game over.

kaplan, i&#x27;ve been saying something similar about the gay marriage.  how in the world is gay marriage such a big issue to people who aren&#x27;t (outwardly at least) gay when taxes and wars and health care and countless other issues are so much more important and direcxtly affect them?  how do you get people to wait in line for hours for shitty fast food to support an issue that is so miniscule to them compared to so many others. well, it&#x27;s genius.  i&#x27;m not sure it works the way it used to if obama wins again, but i&#x27;m also not sure what else they can do before the republican party figures out they need to change strategies.

I am very much against abortion, but the idea by voting for a right wing repulsican would stop abortions is ridiculous.

The majority of women voters want the right to choose, period. They have said that over and over for 3 decades. Supreme Court Justice Sandra D O'Conner was the swing vote in the case of Roe v Wade and she was appointed by the right wing favorite president Ronald Reagan.

The most recent Supreme Court vote by Justice John Roberts (who was apponted by Bush,) is a prime example.

I know there are very religious people out there who are against abortion (and gay marriage) for religious reasons, however; this is a gambling website. I can't speak for all of the "Repulsicans" on Covers but I don't care about the abortion issue (or gay marriage). I just don't want my tax dollars funding abortions (directly or indirectly through organizations like Planned Parenthood). If you tell me "Planned Parenthood does more than abortions" then I will tell you "I'll take my chances."

As far as an audience for the abortion/gay marriage issue: if you are looking to sway anyone Covers isn't the forum. Go to a church on Sunday (preferably a black church) or a mosque.

i don&#x27;t want to get into a abortion debate.  both sides (except the extremists) will have valid points.  i just thought it was interesting that romney seems so strongly in favor or the pro choice position.  moreso than obama, especially if obama really is one of those muslim types.

Another example is when the Repulsican party had control of all three branches for 6-8 years after Roe v Wade. Did they put a stop to abortion ?

thats the whole thing with the prochoice thing that people dont understand... that it is the right to choose to have or not to have an abortion...

people will be walking their way to eugenics eventually...

With socialized medicine there is a strong push towards eugenics as a cost saving measure. I wonder if our glorious leaders will allow us to bring our children to term if they have heart defects that could cost them greatly.

Along with that you have the "death panel" issues, and when "not intervening" becomes akin to murder.

OR when eye surgeries, and hip replacements can not be justified under the bottom line, so our elderly spend their last days in pain and humiliation.

It is not a stretch. I am not saying that there are plans for this, I am just saying that these are the next shoes to drop.

When our country believes that they can act in people's personal lives, IE Bloomberg with Soda/breastfeeding, meets a country that loves abortions, and has a strong appeal to the "collective good" , eugenics and euthanasia are just around the corner. Hopefully not in my lifetime,but as the society progresses, the eventual march toward inhumanity and cold rationalization is almost inevitable.

Just because our generation does not morally feel comfortable with this rhetoric, does not mean that the next will feel so squemish about pulling the plug on grandpa. It is the overton window of morality that has been at play since the beginnings of any great civilization.
