Jury finds the viloent, racist, Right-Wing defendants
liable for more than $26 million in damages

Charlottesville, Virginia (CNN)

A jury has awarded more than $26 million in damages after finding
the White nationalists who organized and participated in a violent
2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia - praised by Donald Trump as
"very fine people" - liable on a state conspiracy claim and other claims.

The violence during the Unite the Right rally turned the Virginia city
into another battleground in America's culture wars and highlighted
growing polarization. It was also an event that empowered White
supremacists and nationalists to demonstrate their beliefs in public
rather than just online  [not denounced but enabled by trump]

The first federal conspiracy claim was the most prominent against the
racist defendants because it alleged the defendants conspired to commit
racially motivated violence while the second alleged the defendants
had knowledge of a conspiracy and failed to prevent it.

The events surrounding August 11-12, 2017, saw White nationalists
and supremacists marching through Charlottesville and the University
of Virginia campus chanting, "person will not replace us,"
"You will not replace us" and "Blood and soil,"
a racist phrase evoking 1930s Nazi philosophy on ethnic identity.

I would agree with that, yes.

Half of the $24 million in punitive damages awarded were against Fields.

Fields is currently serving a life-sentence.

 Where do you read the 24 million against Fields? I saw it's more like 7 million but am not a fan of my source & that is why I am asking.

removal of a statue of a US traitor, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee -
- reached a crescendo when trump-supporter James Alex Fields Jr.,
sped his car through a crowd of counterprotesters, injuring dozens
and killing 32-year-old counter-protester Heather Heyer.

So far, lawsuits have been the best weapon in the war against far right extremists and white supremacists.  Even if defendants don't have millions of dollars, they face the prospect of having wages garnished and properties taken.  In the 1980s, a lawsuit by Southern poverty law center crippled the Ku klux klan.
