Keystone Pipeline and Payroll Tax

so today both the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits were extended two more months. the rider here is that our president has to decide on the keystone pipeline issue. environmentalists tell obama they wont work on his campaign if he allows this canada us job and energy creating pipeline because of potential issues to the oglala aquafir water source which has numerous pipelines through it.

so the interesting issues here are

1 obama gets to appear as a tax cutter

2 obama is between unions and their pipeline jobs and the enviro movement

3 obama is not allowed to vote "present" as he tried to do by postponing this issue til jan 2013

make a choice barray....whatever you believe in then do it.....

very interested in what they think the prez should do

The pundits say he will side with the unions (and the American people) on this one. The enviornmentalists movement isn&#x27;t as large. He wanted to put it off until after the election but it looks like he may have to piss one side off.

Canada has one of the largest supply of energy in the world.  Oil, natural gas, uranium and hydroelectric power.  Closer economic ties with Canada are inevitable since USA is a huge consumer.  For national security, buying from a friendly neighbour is better than from volatile Middeeast countries.  Besides, investment and jobs benefit both countries.  Also pipeline transport is safer for environment than by ships if a spill occurs because cleanup and containment are easier on land.

Obama can rule on this and come off as a job creator. Seems to me the republicans are forcing obama to do something that will make him look good.
The essential problem is that he has been playing to the educated elites on the eastern seaboard and they lean toward environmentalism. The ohio crowd leans towards jobs and unions, both of which obama needs to win.
i expect he'll side with the latter here but you never know, his admin has been extremely unfriendly to non green energy. quite a decision though and if he finds a way to punt this decision it should be openly stated that he is voting present.....too scared to choose.

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, has come out publicly in opposition to the approval of the Keystone XL project ! And the Loon Bachmann thinks keystone will make the US energy independent. I would like to know which Koch brother told her that.

It would appear that ethanol production is actually a greater harm to the aquafir than the pipeline. yet some how our ridiculous corn lobby feels threatened by this pipeline.

its a political move to get more for ethanol who is the briber of this governor.
