A short lesson in honesty and ethics. When you first say "We have a trade deficit with Canada", you may be in error. When presented with the facts, and you continue to spout the same garbage, it is no longer an error. It is a lie. Just trying to be helpful, but since you care nothing for honesty or ethics anyway, the difference probably does not matter (to you).

Both US commerce department and 2018 white house report confirm that US has a trade surplus with Canada. However Trump continues to lie about the truth. Also Trump claims imaginary problem of trade deficits when most american economists view NAFTA as beneficial for the US. Trade deficits occur naturally when rich countries buy more from poorer countries. Hard to find economists that support protectionism.

Trade deficits aren't necessarily a bad thing. When the economy is doing well, Americans spend more and imports increase. But delusional psychopath Trump often lies.
