Since we have neither a religion or philosophy forum, where else you gonna mention it? Probably my favorite non-denominational preacher of all time. Just trying to deliver God's message as he saw it, without vitriol or debasement of any other sect or belief. One of those guys you can say about "They don't make them like that anymore" Welcome in 185 countries with his "We are all God's children" message. R.I.P. Billy, and thanks for the memories.

That would be the General Discussion Forum...
But, Rev Graham was very much a political figure and this forum is a good place for the topic....
Although he was a registered Democrat...Billy Graham was a pastor to many presidents over the years. Regarded as the most influential preacher of the 20th century. So,,, influential that Hillary Clinton said,,,that
she turned to him during the sex scandal involving her husband and
Monica Lewinsky.

I am actually Independent myself, but registered Democrat so that I get to vote in primaries. There is no need to influence Republican choices in Arizona, the Mormons take care of that, but if I can influence the Democratic side I am willing to do so. So, I know how Rev. Graham felt about registration, it really doesn't mean much unless you are a card carrying donor.

He was a voice of reason during the most difficult times for decades. He respected the opinions & views of others while also being a positive influence in their lives.
We need this type of voice respected worldwide & hope one emerges.

In Mesa, and saying that Mormons are not political animals is like saying the Nazis did not control Germany because only about 6% of all Germans were certified Nazis. jmho, but the Mormon church impresses me as more of a social, political and economic organization than religious. Nevada is another target state, and they are making great progress there as well. I have been associated (business wise) with many, many Mormons over the last 30 years and I think I have formed a knowledgable opinion.
The boys around here that really crack me up are the pnes that say Arizona is just "California with Cactus." That is the most ignorant assumption possible. There is almost no political similarity between the two.

Interesting...Goldwater feared this as well, but..
"I don't want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me i there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists & the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it."

Not 10% of this forum knows anything about Barry Goldwater, but he was a badly misunderstood (and intentionally misrepresented) man of true conviction, whether you agreed with his convictions or not.
Reverend Graham hit in on the head. Now that they got the votes the Republicans want the Evangelicals and Catholics to be satisfied with one Supreme Court appointment and shutup until the next election, when they will be back again looking for votes. There is no "conservative" movement in Washington for anything protecting religious rights or religions between elections. Those that vote "Pro Life" have their movement, but they don't seem to understand they are also voting "Anti Social Safety Net". Trump, Pence, Cruz, Rubio, any of them would gladly dump the entire social safety net in favor of extreme corporate and individual wealth.
