I think Schumer is going to surprise some people. He's circumspect and a bit sly, more so than I would have given him credit for in the past and my opinion only changed after hearing him interviewed recently. He's likely to do just do what Mitch did on the other side and obstruct anything the Democrats don't support and delay, etc. He'll still work with Trump on things he believes have some feasibility, though. He's also not going to back down to Trump so anyone expecting Trump to bully him into kowtowing should probably lower their expectations.
I don't know how any Republican could possibly be shocked that the Democrats aren't willing to negotiate on anything after the Republicans spent 8 years fighting just about every policy that Obama wanted to implement. By doing that strategy, the effect down the road is that the Democrats are going to adopt their methods and do the same thing. It may have worked for the Republicans right now but the lack of compromise over that time will hurt them.
