I replied in the other thread because it just seemed here you were reporting news.
But do you think this is good? If so, why? What does it achieve that makes it better compared to why they should not join?

New members to NATO are a good thing...I see nothing wrong with Sweden joining as they have been an ally for some time now...the key to being in NATO is being vetted to having certain criteria to be eligible....something that a country like Ukraine cannot do, thus why they cannot be a member of NATO...they are corrupt and cannot be trusted and have too many democratic shortfalls....Sweden on the other hand has no issues, that I'm aware of, with any of those issues and thus why they have been allowed to join NATO...good for them and anyone that is actually eligible to join that wishes to join...keep in mind NATO was truly developed as an alliance against the then Soviet Union....I still believe that holds true today as NATO grows....And with Ukraine, you can see why NATO is important to those countries in that region in their fight against now Russia...it's an exclusive club but becomes diluted if you start having allies and protecting them when your club is essentially supposed to be a members only club...having allies to assist in humanitarian efforts, fine, but to treat them as if they are some how vetted into your club, so to speak, taints the very effort of why it was created to begin with...I embrace Sweden as a NATO member because I don't feel as though they have any major corrupt dealings and will be an asset in the fight against the Russians.....this is how you defeat Russia, not with war because they will sacrifice their people and their land for zero cause just to say they did so while trying to write history, in their mindset...just look what they did with the long drawn out cold war....just drained everybody and everything some 40+ years...Ukraine could possibly be the cold war 2.0......
And before anyone says anything to the contrary...this is only my opinion but ok Sweden, whose next

Trump will get Sweden to pay towards the Ukraine war and many others that are behind in paying their fair share. This is what legit leaders do to help all and the World. Right now they have no plan on what the end of Ukraine/Russia war looks like. keep throwing more and more money at it, is the Dems only plan.
Get a leader in that can stop the killing and actually negotiate a end to this mess.

Putin claims prevention of NATO membership is supposed to be one of the reasons for invasion of Ukraine. Instead NATO has become stronger with more countries joining and military expenditures increasing. Former allies of Soviet union would rather join NATO than Russia because Putin is the real threat. Not NATO the greatest defensive alliance in history. He wants to control neighbors and destroy Ukraine as an independent nation. US is stronger with NATO than without NATO.

All you that keep mentioning neighbors of NATO as a defense for why to support Ukraine fall on a very weak premise because there are other neighboring countries that fit the same demographic but they are not being attacked by Russia....if what you claim is true, why is Russia not invading those bordering counties that are not part of NATO if that is the claim you fear????
Something up with Ukraine...that's why the interest....if it were another country the US may not give a shit, but with Ukraine it does...
I would stop with the neighboring concept because that's a weak argument....gaining access to the ports would be a more plausible defense but even that is a weak argument in my opinion...does Russia really want the land???? I don't think so...is Russia bitter....you bet....they are bitter about a lot of things, but after the cold war ended and many states broke off from them and became their own independent nations is what really chaps their hide....not much being talked about that but ideally that 40+ year war left a stain on the Russian people and broke their country in more ways than one....hard to bounce back from what happened there and having states break off and becoming independent nations scratches the underbelly of their leaders in a very bad way...do they want what was once theirs...oh hell yea but these are different times...they started with Ukraine because they needed someone to pick on...someone whom they could push their dominance on knowing that the US and NATO would financially back the war but could not fight in it...in my opinion Russia wins in all of this because it doesn't care about the loss of human life for their own people so long as it is costing the US and the NATO members financially....Russia may be the smart ones here and they may be doing exactly what they intended to do...financially strap the US and its allies protecting a land, a country and corrupt government that cannot ever qualify to be part of NATO....Ukraine will never be eligible to be part of NATO but yet we are stupid enough to support them financially as if they are...makes no sense...Russia wins in the end regardless...

Yep.. they are incompetent fools.

I thought it was complete crazy when Russian troops hunkered down and dug trenches at Chernobyl and then a week or two later the obvious happened.
Putin is taking the best and easiest conquest for him, with ports and resources. The fact this is still ongoing just magnifies that the Billions of dollars we sent over just paid of the corruption and there most likely have some coming back to the swamp who sent it over. In one form or another

Russia has a long history of invading neighbors. Finland. Poland. Czechoslovakia. Afghanistan. Georgia. Belarus. Armenia. Manchuria. Baltic states. Ukraine. Neighbors are afraid because they know Russia best. Lesson from world wars is that appeasing enemies is like feeding crocodiles.

The point was lost on you
So Russia wants to go to war with a neighboring country to a NATO member....and that is supposed to matter to NATO and the the US? I don't see the correlation. Again, the point of having a club is to favor your members. No way in hell Russia attacks a NATO member in today's time as that would be imminent suicide for its people...I don't buy the logic to feed billions or trillions of dollars into a corrupt country like Ukraine to fight a war that is not part of NATO...again, the initial first round of funding, fine for humanitarian purposes, but there is zero obligation to do anything for a non NATO member...this isn't the year 1900 where you had to worry about the Soviets...this is 2023-2024 and the scope of things is very different in terms of where each are respectively and where we are as a world....let Russia keep and use their archaic tactics....Ukraine is not NATO, so why pour bad money into a bad situation for a non club member?????
NATO loses value in my opinion because of this type of decision....And this is going off the premise that Ukraine will NEVER be eligible to become a NATO member so you are not evening helping a prospect...I see no way in hell that Ukraine ever cleans up their corrupt government and does what is needed to be eligible for NATO in our lifetime...So, why is the US and NATO members supporting a corrupt government beyond humanitarian efforts? It has zero to do with the fact that it borders NATO members....

Negotiations cannot end this war because Russia lies. If Ukraine is forced to sign a ceasefire agreement, Russia would probably wait and launch another invasion later. Russia has a history of violating numerous peace deals. Putin cannot be trusted and prefers war.
