Anyone read this book yet? It is pretty good, about 20% done. Really dispels a lot of the economic myths that we grow up hearing.absolutely evicerates Reagan.

I read the book last summer ..Reagan isn't the only President,that he points his finger at ..and his criticism is also directed at Washington, Wall Street and the Fed. which I found interesting coming from a Vietnam draft dodger ...

This book has too much doom and gloom for me.. .

So far, I agree with him more than I agree with any current or past politician. I am at the part now that talks about the "cold war" and how Reagan was essentially duped into overspending, how a lot of the programs were above and beyond what it would take to finish off the USSR, which was, at that point, on a sure path to destruction on their own.

Rick, does it mention anything about how Reagan, was the President that basically gave the green lights to companies moving overseas to use slave labor wages.
This guy could have been a true hero, had he put a stop to that crap when he was in office. Companies only needing an office here, could escape paying taxes, was all started when Reagan was in office. He should have slapped taxes on companies making their products overseas and bringing them back here to sell. We just might have a lot more things being made in our country today.

American companies started moving overseas in the mid and late 70's ( Jimmy Carter )...due to free trade treaties and the fact union labor and contracts became too expensive for American companies to compete effectively.....

&#xD;&#xA;Who could possibly dispute that  the USSR would self destruct on their own ?     He won the "Cold War".  WTF ?!   We are disputing how much he spent to accomplish this goal ?? &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;I&#x27;m sure &#x27;CD will tell you how Reagan loved to outsource job overseas.   (Wow, that was not on anyone&#x27;s radar at the time, CD is one smart man).

[/Quote]Thanks Rush, as a matter of fact I am pretty smart.Reagan signed many bills to help corporations move jobs overseas and created all kinds of tax loopholes for those corporations. If you dont want to believe, thats fine, but he still did it.I suppose he didnt give us the war on drugs either, which is a complete failure that has cost our country trillions thru the years, and still costs us more and more each year on a failed policy, created by the worst President ever.I bet a lot of people are still waiting for that reagan trickle down economics to start working

It has not mentioned facilitating outsourcing.

It is about the economic fallacies that construct the narrative of the Presidents and their policy. This guy has first hand knowledge about Reagan.

He also talks about how the "new deal" was a corporate crony bonanza.

Only about a quarter done, but so far this is probably the best book I have read that exposes the false narratives that have plagued our country when it comes to economics. The simple fact is that the population at large will never become economically literate. So the great number of people rely on narratives that they have been told.
IE Reagan was a tax cutting, libertarian who hated big government.
Or FDR was a great man of the people who passed the "new deal" to help the little guy. (when in fact it was a crony handout).

the first part of the book completely eviscerates the idea that we needed a bailout or "main street" would run red with the blood of the average consumer.

It also talks about how Obama handed out hundreds of billions of dollars to banks, on the backs of the taxpayer, so that they would not take a small loss or have to forgo their bonuses for a year.

Really good book, tears down the idea that there have been any good presidents, and exposes them all for the crooks that they were.

One thing Stockman say&#x27;s in the book.. is something many of us can agree on... we need to "recaptue government"..We need to move to a citizen government model.  A constitutional amendment allowing people to serve any office for six years and never run for reelection or lobby. ...Hear !  Hear !

It is a bit of a problem, because he take a very circuitous route to making his point. He jumps from administration to administration.  He was just talking about Ford, now he is talking about FDR.  The info on FDR is priceless.  Especially the fact that in 33 he refused to attend a monetary conference opting instead to go out to sea on a vacation cruise, and essentially sent a letter telling the combined leaders of the Democratic west to F-off.  It was good to know the dynamics of Eccles involvement in the New Deal, and how at that time (as many argue today) the FED is essentially the economic branch of the Executive office and it&#x27;s cronies.  So far it is ranking in the top ten for Economics books.
