NFL Legend Jim Brown Admits He ‘Fell In Love’ With Trump After Recent Meeting
Despite his election-season support for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, a recent trip to Trump Tower gave NFL legend Jim Brown a different impression of the president-elect.
In a CNN interview this week, Brown described his meeting with Donald Trump as positive and reassuring.
He went as far as to tell host Brook Baldwin he “fell in love” with the brash billionaire after sensing what he felt was a sincere desire to help minorities in the U.S.
Trump “really talks about helping African-Americans, black people,” the Hall of Famer said.
Brown, who has dedicated much of his decades-long retirement to activism on behalf of the black community, noted he welcomes the opportunity to work with individuals of any race who share his desire to help others.
“I don’t come out of the box as racial,” he said. “I look for good people and people that will be like-minded and help me try to do good for other human beings.”
Trump would presumably be the latest in a line of inspiring Caucasians with whom Brown can find ample common ground.
“The three greatest people in my life were white, OK?” Brown said. “My high school coach, my high school superintendent and my mentor in Manhasset, Long Island.”
He went on to explain he does not respect Trump only because of promises to help African-Americans. Though Brown voted for Trump’s rival in last month’s election, even then he liked at least one thing about the unorthodox candidate.
“When he goes through what he went through to become president, he got my admiration,” the retired runningback said. “No one gave him a chance.”
Brown added that after Trump won, he “held no grudges” and welcomed input from his former critics. That openness to hear other points of view, he added, was apparent in his recent meeting with the former reality television host.
“The reception I got from him today, I’ll always remember that,” Brown said. “Because he listened to us and he knows we can bring something to him to help the people of this country.”
In explaining why he took the meeting with Trump in the first place, he said he accepted the election results and appreciated the president-elect for being “amenable to listening to people who did not vote for him.”
He described Trump as “our man” for at least the next four, but “probably eight” years.
