Donald Trump has done it again, folks! Before taking the oath of office, the president-elect has created jobs!
Japanese SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, a billionaire technology investor, met with the president-elect today at Trump Tower. The two men just announced SoftBank will invest $50 billion in the United States and create 50,000 in the process!
Masayoshi Son said he absolutely would not make such a financial investment in the United States if Donald Trump had not won the election. The $50 billion will reportedly come from a $100 billion investment fund set up with Saudi Arabia.
SoftBank owns about 80 percent of the telecom company Sprint. The company bought the British chipmaker ARM Holdings earlier this year.
Son did not go into specific details about the SoftBank investment and jobs creation endeavor during his short meeting with the press in the lobby of Trump Tower. He did say he arranged the meeting with the president-elect, and he likes Trump “very much.”
President Barack Obama tried to coax Apple into moving manufacturing jobs back to the United States in 2011 and failed. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs reportedly informed Obama at the time that “those jobs aren’t coming back” to America.
Documents that Son was holding during the impromptu meeting with the press featured the Foxconn logo, also known as Hon Hai. Son noted Hon Hai is a supplier for Apple’s iPhones.
“I do believe that some manufacturing may come back to the United States, primarily because of the fact that President-Elect Donald Trump is going to twist Apple’s arm,” said Colin Gillis, a BGC Partners, according to a CNBC report. “And there’s been reports that Foxconn is reviewing being able to assemble plants, and it would be a good thing.”
Jobs might not have come back for Obama, but it looks like they are eager to come back for Donald Trump. The good-paying jobs from this deal should include the hiring of both blue collar and white collar Americans.
After defeating Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump said he told current Apple CEO Tim Cook he hoped the company would “build a big plant in the United States or many big plants in the United States.” It looks like a another dream just came true for the president-elect and for 50,000 Americans looking for a living-wage job!
