A)  Never....

Friday, Senate Minority Whip Diick Durbin (D-IL) criticized Trump for his use of the term “chain migration” because according to the Senate Minority Whip, it was offensive to African-Americans that “migrated” to the United States chains....

Durbin :  When it came to the issue of, quote, “chain migration,” I said to the president, do you realize how painful that term is to so many people? African-Americans believe they migrated to America in chains and when you talk about chain migration, it hurts them personally.

Diick Durbin is approaching the same level of stupidity as Sheila Jackson Lee and Hank Johnson with this one...

Hey Diick,, if chains are so offensive to AA's why does Jay-Z wear a very large gold chain around his neck ?

We all came to this country on different ships but we're all in the same boat now.

I've never seen out country so divided since Nam.I know I am one of Trump's harshest critics in this forum & nothing will change my opinion that he's a dirtbag.

Having said that I fought for & love this country. Politicians for the most part cannot be trusted on both sides of the aisle. Hell, I've wanted Senator Nelson here in Florida gone for the longest time. And I actually think Rubio is a smart guy with some great ideas.

Our beliefs on the race issue IMO are based on our life experiences. When in a fox hole you want everyone to watch your back. It's the same way in daily life. I expect others to watch my back just like I will watch there's.

At the same time, if anyone of any race hurts someone I love I would do anything to make sure they didn't hurt anyone else.

Make sense??

Do you have any black friends?

Because I don't think you do.  You don't seem to know the first thing about blacks and what they think and feel.  So I'm having trouble understanding why you would start a Thread like this when you have zero first hand knowledge.

To tell you the truth........I don't have very many friends ..period.

As far as ,,me not knowing what blacks think and feel....tell me truthfully..how does Dicck Durbin know how blacks think and feel about what President Trump is reported to have said..?

Maybe StumpTownStu will drop by and give us his thoughts on the issue..

I have no personal knowledge of Dicck Durbin but I think it's safe to assume he has regular discussions with several leaders of black communities.  He may not interact socially with the average black citizen but he must get feedback from these community leaders.

Having black friends now and having worked side by side with some blacks in the past, I can tell you there are things that white people take for granted.  Things that white people don't give a second thought about can be a serious affront to blacks.

Here's an example.  Ten years ago, in January of 2008, I was working a job where my coworkers and myself had to enter the boss's office from time to time during the day.  The boss was a huge New England Patriot fan.  He had a big stuffed black teddy bear in a Patriot Uniform that he proudly had tacked to the wall.

To refresh your memories, the Patriots had gone undefeated that season and were 12 point favorites over the New York Giants.  A lock to win the Superbowl.  When they lost the game to the Giants the boss was so upset he hung a rope noose around the teddy bear's neck and hung it from the ceiling to symbolize the Patriot's epic "choke".

As you have probably guessed, my black coworkers were more than a little ticked off about seeing a black figure hanging from a noose.  They didn't see it as a Patriot's choke.  They saw it as a symbol of black slavery hangings.  I'm not even sure they teach this any more but slave owners used to hang blacks by nooses from a tree, cut their d-i-c-k-s off, and stuff it in their dead mouths.

Now my boss obviously wasn't thinking, just as Lord Trump wasn't thinking about blurting out "chain migration", but it's 20-20 hindsight to realize how blacks think and feel about subjects we white people just take for granted.

TheGoldenOne,I do not have to have first hand knowledge of what blacks think or feel to know,, that Durbin is not the most reliable source when it comes to reporting on White House meetings.

This isn't the first time Durbin has told lies about what happened in meetings in the White house   In 2013, during the debt ceiling negotiations, person was caught straight up lying, alleging that one GOP congressional leader told President Obama  “I can’t even stand to look at you.”   ..... Later White House daily briefing, press secretary Jay Carney came out and said it never happened..

 What Durbin is doing is trying to get leverage on President Trump in these negotiations by unjustly branding him as a racist...In fact  Dicck Durbin appears to be some what of a hypocrite .He joined with five other Senators Thursday...in a press release that used the so called racist "c" word phrase..

The Senators along with Durbin released the following statement after reaching a bipartisan agreement on immigration:

"President Trump called on Congress to solve the DACA challenge. We have been working for four months and have reached an agreement in principle that addresses border security, the diversity visa lottery, chain migration/family reunification, and the Dream Act—the areas outlined by the President. We are now working to build support for that deal in Congress."

If the term "chain migration" is so offensive why is he using it ?  Is because he has regular discussions with leaders in black community ...so it's OK ?

Uh, Slim, PTI, but “chain migration” is not a figure of speech, or a “term”; it is a real, viable, THING. I suppose some PC fanatic could dream up something else to call it, but it is what it is.  When discussing chain migration why not call it by it’s rightful name?

To me,the phrase chain migration does not refer to African slaves brought over here forcibly,that type of migration does not fit the standard of chain migration ..

Chain migration referred to by President Trump is a form of family unification,when U.S. citizens are allowed to freely bring their family members with them...

I agree, and I did not attempt to redefine it or rename it. I am fine with that fact. That is what it is and has nothing to do with physical chains on anyone. BUT; it is not a term or figure of speech when used by Durbin or anyone else, Slim, it is a fact, a real thing, and anyone using it is not practicing discrimination or referring to physical, metal chains. You wrote as if it was a discriminatory or prejudicial term.

Sen.Durbin is the one saying it's a discriminatory phrase  ...and saying the meaning is physical chains..,,not me.

Goose, hanging a Patriot mascot that just happened to be a black teddy bear? I hear what you're saying and I can see how it could be misinterpreted a little bit but does the hyper-sensitivity ever go away?
Hogan's Heroes came out in the 60's and the J-ews didn't condemn it and protest, hell I think 2 J-ews were stars on the show.

Ain't nobody hanging nobody for 50 years. I have no problem with black people, my gym trainer is black, I'd take a bullet for him and I do believe that for the most part the races get along just fine. It's the FKG media and idiots like Durbin that never let it go into history. 

Trump's statement about shithole countries is an accurate statement. Do we want people here that have very limited skills, don't know what a tooth brush is or have ever used a flush toilet? Now I don't know about my covers brothers but I think we feed and house enough of our own citizenry, we really don't need them from other places. IMO opinion Trump should just STFU and DO IT just like Obama. Obama is a smoother more controlled version of Van Jones. He just "DID IT" and didn't take about it.

"Alice in chains" could've been a black woman all this time. I'm incensed over this. I can't believe the Federal government gave they a copyright for that. Someone should be fired and the named changed to "Alice in Rainbows"... "Alice in Diversity"...

Whoa Goose......how do I approach this & not sound like a person.

We associate hangings with the South during tumultuous times when people were property.  At the same time if you stole somebody's horse u were gonna get hung as well anywhere in the country.

Hangings were inexpensive,quick & a real crowd pleaser. I'm just saying....

Durbin called Trump a racist for wanting to end chain migration.

Now that the Dems/MSM are coming to the realization that the whole Russian collusion thing may not be working out for them, they have turned their efforts to playing the race card.

The 'Trump is mentally unfit' approach to impeachment was short lived.
