With the majority votes of the people, the signing off by the governor, ready law enforcement and the passage by the highest court in the land, there are STILL legal avenues to challenge the law. This whole system of check/balances, separation of powers, court overseeing, endless bureaucratic appeals does more harm than good. Nothing can get done in this country. At some point efficiency has to be given some weight
what say you?

Just look at how the Arizona Immigration law is still being challenged:

Efficiency went out the door and a heavy dose of bureaucracy came into play when Earl Warren became Chief Justice decades ago. For better or worse, that depends on who you ask.
Wall,
You say it embarrasses the state, yet from the outside looking in, it appears to me the majority of the constituents are proud of their stance and is going to back it to the very end. However fruitful that may turn out is another story, yet they're prepared nonetheless.
And I still contend that Gov. Brewer is a brave woman. (Of course, easier said than done with the majority backing her.)

Oh well all you stated is how closed minded and narrow thinking most people here are.
And Brewer is just a candle on the cake, she is the absolute worst politician I think I've ever met. She is a career lifer of the system and is a 100% phony. Check her past and see if outside grandstanding that she has accomplished 5% of what she gripes about in her 20 plus yr sucking off the political system.
Arizona voters are total sheep, they watch too much tv and are swayed by wackos like Sheriff Joe. They will also likely re-elect Arpaio this session even with the numerous offenses he has done to our citizens and against legal, hispanic citizens.
I have to plug my nose living down here, the racial biases and closed minded political views are sickening.

I can count the number of democrats down here on one hand.
That is of course a generalization but the reality is outside small pockets this state is HIGHLY republican in most every way.
As for biases, is that a serious question? Arizona is the poster child for hispanic abuses and issues.
Only down here would guys like Quayle's kid get his political career going or the constant re election of a horrible guy like Arpaio..not only does he get elected over and over, people down here think he is doing a good job.
Arizona is more concerned about the name of the state gun or silly Tea Party lic plates than how to salvage the pathetic education system.
I avoid the tv and try and avoid the extremists..which isnt easy to do.

Ever ask yourself, had only the federal govt actually come out and at the very least, state their position to enforce the law then situations like that in ARI wouldn't need arise? This is not a D vs. R thing, but a plausible solution to quell these "uprisings" that are very divisive to the nation.
And on a sidenote, whatever happened to your buddy KOAJ? Seems like he hasn't posted for the longest time. Anyhow, I've always enjoyed the exchanges between the two of you guys.

I'm afraid Jay is right. A weak federal govt and it's inactivity speaks volume. Thus that has the situation and dilemna facing the nation with these issues of state's right vs. the fed. govt. etc.
Wall,
I'm not even talking about costs. Besides if need be, Congress seems to have the Midas Touch and has been able to produce money out of thin air to finance their causes, but I digress. If the richest most powerful country in history can't even secure it's own border against desparate "trespassers," shouldn't that sound the alarm? Not just that but in previous discussions, a lot of good posters brought up some very reasonable suggestion i.e., troops brought back from oversea for starters. If only the govt can get it's priority straight, but that's another story.
My point is I firmly believe a lot of good Americans would like to see the federal govt come out and make a firm stance criminalizing illegal immigrants initially before we even get into the meaty part of the deal - enforcement and costs. At least get the ball rolling with healthy productive debates instead of the usual finger pointing.
And you're right, fences will not stop ALL those with nothing to lose from coming here. However, realistically it will limit them.
