Oh Boy....what a weekend it's going to be!
As of right now....5 players under par!!
I think this is great..
Once or twice a year (often times the British too) make these guys work extra hard and struggle, its more interesting watching a tough course vs a cream puff, well to me anyway.

100% agreed...its good for the game to humble its stars too, even if its for a week

This crap show of FOX covering golf needs to end. They have had no sound for like 20 minutes. I just don't like their presentation. I am pretty sure I won't get my wish, I think I read they are adding more tournaments.

Horrible coverage. Beef Johnson tees off, ShotTracker shows flight of the ball...
Lefty tees off, nah, who cares about his ball flight? Are you kidding me?

Watching this afternoon and holy crap the ammt of whining and moaning from these professionals is amazing. So what the course is tough, its windy and hard conditions....so keep your composure and grind it out.
Its no mystery why the players near or in the lead are several who have strong nerves and composure.

This golf course is a joke. They blew it last time they held the Open here, and they've done it again. Mike Davis has done it again. The "greens" are now the browns.
Here's the latest quote from the idiot that set up this course for failure:
"You saw some low scores this morning; those hole locations actually work," Davis said. "Having said that, this golf course will get slowed down tonight. There will be water applied to it."
If you like not having Spieth, Rory, Jon Rahm, and Jason Day making the cut, and watching guys hit irons off the tee on par 4s, well then, enjoy.......this is the tournament for you!

I'll be rooting for Ian Poulter.
Because of this reply to Davis on Twitter:
"Is that an apology ?
Just grow a set of balls and say we f*cked it up again...
You don’t get mulligan’s in business at this level. how can this team keep doing this without consequences."

Its like these guys dont know how to grind out a tough course. I've played on some awful tracks as I am sure many of us have, who cares its a game and sometimes the course is perfect and sometimes the course is rough.
Boo hoo the greens are yellow, boo hoo its windy and there isnt some nice rough to stop your ball from rolling off. I respect a winner on a brutal course more than cream puffs like the Masters or the PGA.
As the announcers mentioned there have been many instances where +5 and higher won, these guys need to shut up and play to how the course is best suited for that day...if that means irons off the tee and middle of the green well thats how you play smart. It is almost like there are few to no thinking players, they just want their pristine conditions and low scores every week.

It's all the whining that turns off casual fans to golf. When the effing stuffed shorts went out of their mind about Lefty playing ping-pong, they lost more of the few remaining common fans they had watching.
I've been a huge golf fan my whole life...., but the U.S. Open is such a yawner. Fox's coverage is awful too. Joe Buck??

They should loosen up. And allow picture taking and screaming and cheering and signs and hot cheerleaders doing flips while these guys are swinging. The 16th at Phoenix gets it right. Golf's ratings would skyrocket and millions would get interested in actually playing - instead of 200+ courses CLOSING every year.

The USGA should just punt on course set-up and bring in the pros from the PGA Tour. (Btw, even the holy priesthood at Augusta National brings in the PGA Tour guys to help them with the finishing touches there)
Those guys (The Tour) do hundreds of set-ups every year. They care more about the course playing fairly than trying to defend almighty par. As the Masters has proven, it's more fun for EVERYONE when ALL the players have a chance to light it up a little (not just a little hippie from England).
Those old, toothless, drunks at the R&A were laughing their asses off.
