- Sergio comes in playing pretty solid golf (L4 starts 8th-23rd-6th-37th) and has a very strong course history at Club de Golf Chapultepec (12th-7th-6th in his 3 appearances). Has an average true strokes gained of 2.73 in his 12 rounds here. Woodland was 17th last year in Mexico, but 50th and 38th the 2 years prior in this limited field event, so nothing special.
Victor Perez (+107) over Tyrrell Hatton (1U)
- This may backfire, as Hatton has a very solid track record here (10th-3rd-19th). However, this is his first start in 2.5 months after having wrist surgery. So banking on some competitive rust as he would have had limited practice prior to the last couple of weeks. Perez is a bit of an unknown on the PGA Tour, but has been trending up the World Rankings on the European Tour in the past year. Last 3 starts coming in are 2nd-16th-38th.
Kurt Kitayama (-115) over Chez Reavie (1U)
- Similar to Perez, Kitayama has been making noise on the European Tour and I think this has a chance to be his coming-out party on the world stage. A bit of a fade on Reavie as well, as I feel Kurt is favored for a reason. While Chez comes in off a 10th at Riviera, this track is a lot different. If you look at the contenders in the 3 years it's been played here, it is bombers who can hit high approach shots into the firm greens - not exactly Reavie's strength (52nd & 65th in his 2 appearances).
